Job Description Summary:

DAR
) is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Major Gifts & Principal Gifts.
DAR
is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care. This position is an integral component to achieving aspirational fundraising goals.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Medicine & Health, this position:
Leads development strategy for major gifts and principal gifts for the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, Nursing and Public Health, and works with the leadership of these three schools and
DAR
and to develop and execute annual and long-term development plans.
Coordinates with the central development major and principal gift teams, as well as corporate and foundations relations, to ensure consistency in practice and approach.
Directs the team of field officers dedicated to major and principal gifts fundraising for the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, Nursing and Public Health.
In strong collaboration and coordination with central development and leadership, develops the strategic messaging/impact narrative and overall campaign framework for the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, Nursing and Public Health.
Creates philanthropic strategies and partners with staff, alumni, and external constituents to fulfill campaign goals.
In partnership with top leadership, creates a strategic plan that includes ambitious and realistic goal-setting for fundraising, plans to enhance alumni relations, and plans for the establishment of programs for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of top-tier prospects.
Manages 50-70 major and principal gift prospects capable of making seven and eight figure philanthropic gifts.
This is a management position at the university that, in addition to leading a work unit, leads and supervises staff directly, makes hiring decisions, provides coaching, training and mentoring, manages performance and determines future staffing needs.
Provides comprehensive communication and management of metrics, to include goal solicitation and attainment, pledge collection, portfolio management oversight, and how we rate it/business of.
Stewards assigned donors, including pledge collection and management of endowment funds to ensure appropriate spending and communication to donors.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 9 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 7 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
More than 9 years of successful major gift fundraising experience, including management of individuals and programs
Successful experience in large university campaigns with academic medical center components
Experience in driving fundraising results, including how major gifts officers qualify prospects and move them through a pipeline.
The ability to prepare and implement strong development plans
Experience in leading fundraising teams and day-to-day operations
Experience in complex academic healthcare organizations including collaborating on prospect strategy and proposals with central development and related health care disciplines, e.g. nursing, public health
Experience in working with centrally managed development organizations with distributed services and accountability.
