The Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Plymouth are seeking to appoint an individual to join their Psychometrics Team, which provides rigorous evidence-informed analysis and expert support for the evaluation and quality assurance of assessment data in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The primary function of the role is to provide core psychometric support, helping the Team to deliver cutting-edge psychometric and statistical input to the medical and dental curricula. You will contribute to maintaining the Schools as national and international leaders in contemporary assessment for healthcare education.
The Peninsula Schools are part of the Faculty of Health, which works in a strong partnership with the University and the NHS to provide up-to-date, patient-centred and integrated medical and dental programmes and a suite of research-led bioscience and healthcare science degree programmes. Research within the Schools is directly relevant to improving patient health and the quality of patient care, and informs and enriches the education of doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals. You will be responsible for contributing to the delivery and continuous development of an efficient assessment psychometrics service for the Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. The Schools’ Psychometrics Team provides rigorous evidence-informed analysis and expert support for the evaluation and quality assurance of assessment data in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The primary function of the role is to provide core psychometric support, helping the Team to deliver cutting-edge psychometric and statistical input to the medical and dental curricula. The post holder will contribute to maintaining the Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry as national and international leaders in contemporary assessment in clinical education.
You will have a background in quantitative analysis and be highly motivated to work in a team where flexibility and role sharing are essential aspects of our service provision. The ability to communicate the results of statistical analyses to a non-technical audience, both orally and in writing, is vital. Experience of teaching, programme delivery or educational research, knowledge of assessment psychometrics and programming skills in R or other statistical software are all desirable but not essential.
You will be working as part of a team of psychometricians, located in the University’s city-centre campus, though there is some flexibility to work remotely. Meetings that the team are required to attend, contribute to, and lead are a combination of virtual and face-to-face, held in the city centre and at the Plymouth Science Park site.
Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement.
