Job Description:
The Office of New Student Services at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Coordinator of First Year Initiatives. Expectations include assisting with the initiatives for new students that support their success and persistence at SUNY Oneonta.
The focus of the Office of New Student Services is on all facets of orienting new students to the campus community through online, in-person, and on-going programs; creating supportive communities that support student success and persistence through mentoring programs and through the utilization of face-to-face, email, and social media outreach in addition to connecting with and engaging our students' parents/family members. To learn more about the College and the Office, please visit ****and ****Duties include but not limited to: assisting with the implementation of all orientation and transition programs that are targeted at freshmen/first-year students; coordinating the recruitment, selection, hiring and training of the New Student Services student staff member team in collaboration with the office's assistant director and director; supervising orientation leaders during all orientation programs; supervising the Dragon Guides (for first-year/freshmen students); assisting with the administrative functions of the year-long programs and opportunities for first year students to engage with the campus community; updating the NSS website and online orientation modules; coordinating outreach to new students via social media, peer mentors, and passive programs; developing content for family members of new students in coordination with the Family Communication team; assisting with other activities related to the function of the area; maintain program budget; collaborate with campus partners in order to enhance the quality of life and learning for new students. This position will have evening and weekend responsibilities.
Requirements:
Required qualifications: bachelor's degree by May 2021; one year of experience working in a college setting in a peer mentor-type or professional mentor-type role; experience with program/event development, implementation and evaluation; a valid driver's license at position start date.
Preferred: master's degree at time of start date (or within 6 credits from completion) in higher education, student affairs or related field; experience with first-year or transfer students; experience with recruitment, selection, training and supervision of student staff; experience with college orientation programs; experience with Adobe Suite or other design tools; and experience working with and serving diverse populations.
