The Elliott School's Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising provides advising services to over 2,200 undergraduate students majoring in International Affairs, Asian Studies, Middle East Studies, and Latin American and Hemispheric Studies. Through individual and group advising, workshops, and programs, the Undergraduate Advising Office empowers students to develop goals, navigate academic programs, utilize available resources, and explore the field of international affairs.
The Assistant Director, Academic Advising and Operations is responsible for ensuring efficient advising processes and operations and the effective use of technology in the Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising. The Assistant Director directs graduation certification, the junior degree audit, academic program declarations, and other office-wide operations. Critical to the role is the management of the student communication program, including revising and updating the content of Constant Contact mass emails, the University Bulletin, the Elliott School and academic advising websites, and the second language proficiency process. The Assistant Director also facilitates the effective integration and utilization of advising software and other technology for a staff of 11 full-time professional advisors and serves as the unit lead for the continuing Salesforce
CRM
advising system implementation. Additionally, the Assistant Director spearheads advising assessment initiatives and assists with Elliott School-wide and curriculum assessment projects. The Assistant Director supervises at least one senior advisor and two general advisors and advises a cohort of approximately 100-125 Elliott School undergraduates from orientation through graduation.
The Assistant Director, Academic Advising and Operations is a member of the leadership team, which includes a second assistant director and an administrative coordinator, and which reports to the Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising. The leadership team defines and directs the undergraduate academic advising program in the Elliott School. Together, they work in a highly collaborative and supportive work environment. Also core to the engagement of staff, the Office supports opportunities, both on campus and beyond, for professional development.
Specific responsibilities include:
Direct the graduation certification process, the junior degree audit, academic program declarations, and other office-wide operations.
Update web resources, email content and other and internal and external communication.
Review, assess, implement, instruct, and troubleshoot advising-related software such as Banner, Ellucian, Salesforce, Documentum, VMware, and Constant Contact; maintain and update websites and online workflows and forms; serve on committees, task forces, and testing teams associated with software adoption and updating.
Advise a cohort of 100- 25 Elliott students from orientation through graduation; facilitate remote summer orientation and advising through webinars and other remote platforms; monitor undergraduate student progress through individual in-person meetings and ongoing email/virtual communication to review program requirements and opportunities; conduct outreach to probation students and students with Incomplete and Z grades; audit degree progress and completion, including junior degree audits and graduation clearances.
Direct advising assessments and participate in curriculum evaluation.
Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Master's degree in International Affairs, Area or Language Studies, Higher Education Administration, Higher Education Technology, or relevant area of study, highly preferred.
4 years of college-level advising, administration, or teaching experience.
Prior successful experience supervising professional staff is desirable.
Demonstrated successful experience with and working knowledge of advising-related software such as Banner, Ellucian, Salesforce, Documentum, VMware, and Constant ****,425.44
