This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Major Duties
Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President, Communications and Marketing, and working closely with individuals and departments across campus, the web content strategist develops, plans, and executes engaging and effective content that enhances the university's presence on the web and supports the university's long-term strategic goals to recruit quality students and promote the university's academic excellence, accomplishments, and distinctiveness. Responsibilities include consulting with departments across campus on their website goals and recommending information architecture and content strategies that will improve their web presence and overall user experience; researching, writing, editing, and posting engaging university content through a content management system and other online media that reflects the university's voice and tone, mission, vision, and values, and clearly conveys the university's degree programs, departments, and student support services; apply web analytics, SEO strategies, and web content best practices to inform web content strategy and provide recommendations to management; preparing other communications as appropriate to meet office goals.
Qualifications
Required Experience: At least three years working in the area of digital communications and writing for the web in a professional capacity.
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, digital marketing, communications, or similar fields, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five or more years of professional writing experience or working in a university communications office.
Web development.
Technical web experience working with HTML5, CSS, web editing software, and content management systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of communications, media, and/or marketing theories and concepts.
Knowledge of website information architecture, design, and development.
Knowledge of digital best practices, content strategy, user experience, analytics, and digital accessibility.
Knowledge of web content writing strategies.
Skills
Expert writing, editing, and proofreading skills, especially writing for the web, as evidenced by clips or portfolio of past professional work.
Proficient skills in web optimization, analytics, content management systems, and creating web pages.
Proficient skills in using Adobe Creative Suite
Problem-solving skills
Abilities:
Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
Ability to juggle multiple assignments under shifting and tight deadlines
Ability to gather and synthesize information and make informed and sound decisions independently.
Responsibilities
35% - Web content writing
Develops, plans, and executes engaging and effective content using web writing standards methodologies and employing effective interview skills, write, edit, and proofread copy for the university website that highlights and promotes the university's faculty, academics, students, support services, initiatives, and overall mission; assure editorial excellence and alignment with the university brand, style guides; perform regular web page audits to ensure content is up to date, accurate, and relevant.
35% - Website consultation and development
Consult with individuals across campus on their web goals and gain insights on their unit's distinctive qualities and successes in order to make appropriate recommendations on information architecture and content that will result in effective and dynamic web pages with a focus on overall user experience; Work collaboratively and cooperatively with web content designer and the IT team to develop and build webpages. Consult with the web team and communication and marketing management, develop meaningful and measurable web content strategy that can be applied to existing and new webpages on the university's website that drive traffic and promote the university's strategic goals. Prepare web analytics reports to inform decisions. Analyze websites through page audits and web analytics reports and optimize future content based on information learned.
15% - Accessibility
Work with IT team to ensure web content meets accessibility standards
10% - Communications projects
As needed, work with the university communications team on various communications to support office goals, including but not limited to email blasts, social media content, press releases, news stories, administrative correspondences; sourcing videos, photos, graphics, and multimedia to create interactive campaigns.
5% - Performs other duties as assigned.
