Summary:
Burlington Experience uses an integrated, community-based and experiential curriculum to explore the essential question, “What Makes a Community Thrive?” This is a team-taught course at Burlington High School. The Lead Teacher leads the faculty team to create the ideal conditions for student learning and progress towards BHS’ Graduate Expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Lead Teacher will have primary responsibility to:
develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and a schedule of experiences and interactions with community partners.
provide, and work with other teachers on the team to provide, individualized and group instruction using best practices for community-based learning.
assess student learning in Social Studies.
collaborate with other teachers on the team to assess student learning in English.
establish and maintain standards of student behavior to create a safe and positive learning environment.
The Lead Teacher will maintain professional interactions with other staff, students, parents and community partners through:
effective and timely communication
collaboration with support staff to meet individual student needs
appropriate record-keeping and reporting
Preferred Attributes
Experience in professional/teaching learning community groups including working collaboratively with colleagues to plan units of study, review student data and progress, and adjust instruction.
A commitment to student-centered learning approaches including personalizing instruction and supporting students meeting core proficiencies
Training and/or experience with English Language Learners
Experience in implementing inclusive practices for students with disabilities
Ongoing post graduate coursework in education or art
SALARY:
As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
