Qualifications/Responsibilities:

The university's regular-title series typically carries a two-course per semester teaching load and emphasizes excellence in teaching, research, and publication credentials commensurate with departments at high research-intensive universities. Candidates with a record of, or potential for, extramural funding will be given preference. A Ph.D. or terminal degree in a related field is required for applicants at all ranks. For appointments at the assistant rank, a publication record and teaching experience is required. For an appointment at the associate professor or professor rank, the successful candidate must hold a scholarly publication and instructional record exceeding the requirements listed for those ranks in the department, the College and at UK. Rank and salary for this position will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience. Candidates being considered for appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor may be considered for an appointment with tenure, based on the scholarly record.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strategic, technical expertise in areas such as big data analytics for strategic communication, data mining, data-driven storytelling or machine learning with an interest in digital advertising and/or industry experience in areas such as digital/mobile/social media advertising and direct response marketing strategy. Applications are encouraged from candidates whose research programs are in digital marketing/strategic communication. Research and/or teaching experience in the area of sports promotion/strategic communication is a plus.

This position also will contribute to the department's undergraduate education and the graduate certificate program in data-driven strategic communication with ability to teach courses on one or more of the following topics: data analytics in ISC, data analysis and visualization, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data driven strategic communication, strategic communication insight through analytics, social media/mobile strategy, digital strategies, direct response, and integrated strategic media management. Ability to engage students in the application of platforms such as Tableau, Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, Hubspot, Google Ads, or Ads Manager and programming languages such as Python or R through hands-on learning is strongly desirable.

As part of regular duties, the faculty member would serve as an academic advisor to undergraduate and graduate students and would participate in the department's and graduate program's governance and service. Regular-title ISC faculty are encouraged to propose and teach special-topics undergraduate and graduate courses that take advantage of personal interests, research interests, and experiences in the field.

Our department with 12 faculty members and nearly 500 students has been a historic and national leader in offering an integrated and strategic approach to advertising, promotion, public relations, direct response, and interactive or socially mediated communications.

The College of Communication and Information is composed of two schools (The School of Journalism and Media, School of Information Science), two departments (Department of Communication, Department of Integrated Strategic Communication) and an interdisciplinary graduate program. Nearly 1,700 undergraduate majors and more than 400 graduate students are led by more than 80 full-time faculty, who also teach in the university's core curriculum and serve students pursuing minors and certificates in the College. The College also houses UK's independent student newspaper, The Kentucky Kernel, and the defending national championship Intercollegiate Debate Team.
