Job Description:
Job Summary:
The Resident Assistant (RA) facilitates the social, academic and personal adjustment of students in the residence hall. Serves as a positive role model to residents, and enforces the rules and policies of Housing and Residence Life. Acts as a liaison between the residents and University administration. This position requires high student contact activity and qualifies candidates should possess sensitivity to and understanding of multicultural issues and a diverse student population.
Resident Assistants are required to live in the residence hall and will receive a single room with kitchen as remuneration for duties assigned. No other compensation or benefits come with this position. A meal plan is optional and the responsibility of the individual.
This position requires evenings and occasional weekend hours on a rotating basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Attend and participate in required staff training and meetings.
Assist in the operational management of the residence hall including the check-in and check-out of residents.
Assist in the supervision of the residence hall, responding to all requests and emergencies during duty hours. Respond to lockouts, emergency situations, and policy violations. Remain on-call for assigned weekends.
Be available to residents on a daily basis. Receive and promptly process requests for maintenance repairs and custodial needs.
Counsel residents regarding personal and academic concerns when needed, assisting residents in their adjustment to roommate and community living.
Inform residents of pertinent academic and university information, conducting floor meetings when necessary for the purpose of disseminating information, and explaining residence hall policies and procedures.
Respond to all witnessed violations of Housing and Residence Life and University policies occurring and submit the appropriate report to the Resident Director within 24 hours. Conduct disciplinary conferences at the request of the Resident Director.
