Summary of Job Purpose and Principal Duties
We are seeking an exceptional candidate with expertise in Financial Accounting to enhance the teaching and research in Accounting & Finance (A&F) within the School of Business. The appointee will be expected to strengthen our academic leadership capacity within A&F. In addition to pursuing research of an international standard, the successful candidate would be expected to contribute to the teaching of our Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.
We seek an individual with a track record of excellent and impactful research, underpinned by external grant funding, evidenced by regular publication of research papers in top-ranked journals and a strategy for knowledge exchange. In line with University expectations, Professors should be prominent at all levels of teaching across the undergraduate and postgraduate spectrum, making a particular contribution to our taught postgraduate programmes and the supervision of PhD students.
Moreover, candidates will be expected to identify market-led opportunities for new module and programme development.
Summary of Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant subject;
- Clear evidence of excellence in University learning and teaching e.g., curriculum and module design and leadership, experience of assessing work and providing feedback to students;
- Experience of developing, launching and managing pedagogically as well as financially successful programmes with global appeal at the undergraduate and/ or postgraduate levels
- A sustained record of effective leadership in research, knowledge exchange and teaching relating to your discipline;
- Publishing a substantial number of high-quality outputs assessed as potential internationally excellent and world-leading according to the definition used by the UK’s Research Excellence Framework;
- Successful track record of research grants or other forms of income that contribute to knowledge exchange and impact;
- Leading authority with an international reputation for excellence in your research field;
- Appetite for international engagement in terms of research and teaching collaborations.
- Experience of supervision of undergraduate and/or taught postgraduate student projects;
- Experience of successful supervision of doctoral research students;
- Ability to mentor colleagues and advise on personal development;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Evidence of ability and willingness to work collaboratively with others;
- Evidence of effective team leadership and membership;
- Ability to prioritise and balance competing demands;
- Ability to engage and travel in occasional overseas recruitment activities;
- Commitment to act in accordance with and promote the University’s values.
