Job Description:
CityU of Seattle is looking for qualified faculties for Dissertation Chairs and Committee Members to support doctoral students in the School of Education and Leadership, School of Business and Management, and School of Technology and Computing.
Job Summary:
Dissertation Faculty will be under the purview of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.'s Research Institute. The primary role of the Dissertation Chair is to guide students who are in the dissertation process and to provide students with direct feedback on dissertation content and processes. The Dissertation Chair is responsible for working with each student and the student's Doctoral Committee Members to ensure that the student designs and executes a defensible applied research dissertation by generally accepted research practices, CityU policies, and IRB requirements.
Dissertation Chairs and Committee Members are overseen by CityU's Dissertation Director and trained on the university's dissertation process to ensure alignment with CityU standards. The Committee Members support the Chair as reviewers of the doctoral candidate's proposal and dissertation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Dissertation Chair
Coach the doctoral candidate in identifying a workable research topic and related study problem and purpose.
Guide the doctoral candidate on the type of dissertation [e.g., traditional 5-chapter, Three Article Dissertation (TAD)] to create.
Advise the student on developing a relevant literature base.
Prepare the doctoral candidate to develop corresponding research designs and procedures.
Review and approve successive dissertation drafts, providing feedback to assist the doctoral candidate in meeting CityU expectations.
Recommend resources to support doctoral candidates with writing, research, and analysis.
Serve as liaison and communication coordinator between the student and Committee Members.
Perform tasks required to ensure efficient review of student work by the Committee Members, Methodologist and Institutional Reviewer, Program Directors, and Dissertation Director, as needed.
Dissertation Committee Members
Review drafts of the prospectus, proposal, and dissertation.
Advise the chair and student about the dissertation topic, problem, purpose, literature, research design, and procedures.
Communicate any concerns and/or feedback for the dissertation candidate to the Dissertation Chair in a timely manner.
Be available for teleconferences with the student and/or Dissertation Chair.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:

Earned doctorate in Education, Business Administration or Management, Information Technology, or related fields.
Established publication and presentation record, including currently active research agenda.
Excellent writing skills (e.g., grammar, punctuation, sentence/paragraph structure, APA).
Excellent data analysis skills (quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including planning and organization.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with working with students on applied research dissertations, including traditional, TAD, and other non-traditional formats.
Possesses a student-centric attitude (e.g., flexibility in communication styles, ability to motivate student progress, culturally sensitive and understanding, etc.).
Experience with equity-related research.
Experience with Design Science research.
