The Assistant Softball Coach’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited to developing the pitchers, and setting up and overseeing individual pitcher/catcher workouts. The Assistant Softball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in organizing and managing all phases of a Division I Softball program, including recruiting, team travel, strength & conditioning, student-athlete academic monitoring, public speaking, camp/clinic coordination, overseeing equipment needs, budget management, and community and alumni relations.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Assist in coaching and instructing the student-athletes in proper techniques and decision-making in the sport of Softball.
· Perform routine daily responsibilities related to the operation of the sports program. Work could include computer data entry, routine record keeping, and compliance logs required by the NCAA.
· Recruit acceptable student-athletes for the HU athletic program. Use abilities to identify student-athletes who are athletically and academically prepared for programs at HU.
· Adheres to all institution, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
· Reports all known NCAA violations in accordance with the institutional, conference, and NCAA policies and guidelines
· Oversee academic and personal well-being of student-athletes.
· Assist in building a nationally competitive Division I program through successful recruiting and retention of high-level student-athletes.
· Collaborates with Head Coach, Athletic Trainers, and Strength & Conditioning Coach to design academic year (in-season and out-of-season) and summer conditioning programs.
· Assist with budgeting, reconciling expenses, and proposing purchases for the sports program.
· Serve as a key liaison to the broader HU community, engaging in alumni, fundraising, and other key stakeholder activities.
· Other administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree or related experience in High School and/or College level
· At least 1-2 years of related coaching experience
· Strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept and a working knowledge of the CAA rules and regulations is required.
· Ability to organize, recruit, and administer a new program
