Department Information
The School of Data Science and Analytics (SDSA) is a full-stack data science and analytics research and education unit at Kennesaw State. SDSA includes an undergraduate minor, masters, the first PhD in Data Science in the US, the Center for Statistics and Analytical Research (CSAR) and the Human Studies Lab. Since 2015, faculty have received over 2 million dollars in funding through partnerships with 20 different businesses and organizations conducting research into areas such as fintech, manufacturing, and healthcare, resulting in multiple patents and hundreds of additional research products. SDSA's people include more than 40 faculty, 75 graduate students, and hundreds of undergraduates with training in areas such as statistics, analytics, biostatistics, machine learning, natural language processing, image processing, algorithmic development, optimization, neural networks, and predictive modeling. We also offer online certificates in Python, R, SAS, RapidMiner, and have provided customized workshops (virtual and onsite) in technical and business applications of analytics, such as data translators, data governance, and presenting to non-technical audiences.
Job Summary
**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is now accepting applications for an open rank, twelve-month, non-tenure track Lecturer or Senior Lecturer faculty position and Director of the Center for Statistics and Analytical Research in the School of Data Science and Analytics. This position begins August 1, 2022.
Rank is determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
The CSAR is an interdisciplinary analytical research unit that serves as the public-facing research and funding engine for SDSA, especially for the students in the PhD in Analytics and Data Science. As Director, this individual will be expected to: manage, maintain, and build a portfolio of externally funded research partnerships, including budget oversight
collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to staff data science and analytics projects with appropriate subject matter experts and research students
teach undergraduate classes, especially those that involve applied project-based learning, collaborating with industry, and career preparation
may supervisor graduate students and teach graduate classes upon approval
perform needed service at the School, College, and University levels
All candidates should have an academic background in statistics, mathematics, analytics, data science, biostatistics, or quantitative social science. Area of specialization is open, however; we are primarily interested in colleagues that have significant industry experience in leading analytics and data science teams in areas like finance, health care, public health, education, etc. and have experience in obtaining external funding for research.
Other responsibilities may include assisting in the development and revision of academic programs and supervising graduate teaching assistants.
Required Qualifications
A minimum of an earned Master's degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Statistics, Analytics, Data Science or a related field is required at the time of appointment.
Proficiency in at least one analytical programming language (e.g., R, Python, SAS, or other similar)
At least 5 years direct experience in an analytics role in industry or research setting in areas like finance, health care, public health, education, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
At least 2 years personnel management experience at the level of Director or higher
Evidence of obtaining external funding for analytics research or projects
Experience teaching at the college level
Evidence of working with a culturally and an ethnically diverse community
