We are looking for someone interested in getting their hands dirty and their boots wet while working with students on earth surface projects in the dynamic landscapes of southwest Montana for the 2023/2024 academic year.
**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Western uses a block schedule where classes are taught one at a time for a minimum of three hours each day for 18 instructional days. This is an outstanding opportunity for candidates who are trying to gain undergraduate teaching experience, or for candidates who would like to experience what teaching on a block schedule involves. All courses will be capped at 23 students allowing for close interaction with undergraduate students. Classes may be tailored by the instructor to take advantage of her/his research and interests, or to existing projects in the department. Course materials and support are available to the successful candidate. Candidates interested in teaching only one course or a single semester are encouraged to contact us about those possibilities.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach three courses each semester, with one additional block designated for course and project development, preparation and duties as assigned by the provost. Responsibilities begin on August 1, 2023.
Depending on the candidate’s interest and training, essential classes to be taught include: Hydrology (GEO 421), Soil Science (ENSC 348), Surficial Processes (GEO 378), Introduction to Physical Geology (GEO 101), and Environmental Remote Sensing and GIS (ENSC 384). University housing may be available for the successful candidate.
Requirements
Candidates with an earned Ph.D. in geoscience, environmental science, hydrology, soil science or a closely related field with earth surface process background are preferred, but interested ABD candidates or those with an earned M.S. degree are encouraged to apply. Candidates with an M.S. degree and relevant industry, non-profit or agency experience in earth surface processes will also be ranked highly. Candidates with experience and evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching, particularly with some field teaching experience, will be given preference, as will those with experience or a strong interest in experiential teaching and learning that will take advantage of our block scheduling model. Preference will also be given to candidates that are interested in teaching both semesters.
