Job Description
ECMS THEATRE TROUPE MUSIC DIRECTOR
Role Description:
· Understand the chosen show and how its themes may relate to the middle school student experience
· Appreciate how the songs and music of the chosen show serve the story, setting and drama of the production
· Be a member of the creative team working with the Director/Choreographer by attending pre-planning meetings and being available for ongoing artistic discussions during the rehearsal process
· Prepare for and hold auditions with the Director which includes vocal warm-ups, teaching audition material and piano accompaniment
· Collaborate with Director to create rehearsal schedule
· Oversee and conduct music rehearsals which may consist of the full cast or various smaller groups and configurations of singers
· Consult with the show’s sound designer on technical aspects of the performance
· Attend and play piano for tech rehearsal during the weekend prior to opening night
· Attend all performances as the piano accompanist, lead warm-ups before each show, make quick adjustments during the performance when something isn’t working
· Attend post-mortem meeting or submit feedback after final performance
· Maintain school rules and values during entire process, including an understanding that school comes first
Desired Qualifications/Traits:
· Hold a degree in Music
· Ability to play piano
· Ability to read, write and arrange music
· Have experience with theater, preferably with middle school students
· Have a desire to play a key role in shaping and achieving the Theatre Troupe’s success musically
· Have experience working with creative teams
· Have a high level of self-motivation to learn and teach the required show music
· Have excellent verbal communication skills and a collaborative attitude
Stipend Amount: 3.5 units per appendix C of the SEA contract Position Type:
