Description
The Department of Health & Human Performance at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Western is currently seeking to expand its faculty by recruiting a pedagogically-minded, passionate, and collaborative educator in Kinesiology. The position is a full-time, face-to-face, tenure-track appointment
at the assistant or associate professor level. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a teaching approach compatible with Montana Western’s unique mission and scheduling model. This model, where students take and faculty teach a single eighteen-day course at a time, is the mission of the campus and an unparalleled opportunity for a talented and creative educator to merge research with undergraduate learning. Montana Western is the only public four-year college in the nation offering Experience One (X1), experiential learning delivered on the block schedule. The X1 model engages students and faculty in actively exploring the knowledge, purposes, and authentic disciplinary practices of every field of study through experiential learning environments where students take an active role in their own learning.
Faculty teaching responsibilities include three blocks (12 credits) per semester, leaving one professional development block per semester during which faculty can focus on scholarship and service activities. The block schedule facilitates field and lab work, undergraduate research, study travel, and interdisciplinary teaching. Montana Western’s faculty strongly believe in mentoring and inspiring students and assisting them in the transition from university life to their professional careers.
Primary responsibilities of this position include experiential teaching, maintaining a productive research agenda that integrates undergraduate student opportunities, providing inclusive service to the academic community, supporting the continued growth of the department, advising/mentoring undergraduate students as they progress towards their professional careers, and other university responsibilities as they are assigned. The department is specifically seeking a colleague in exercise science or kinesiology that can complement the current faculty specializations. Examples of complementary expertise include anatomical kinesiology, clinical nutrition, community health, neurophysiology, sport psychology, and health enhancement education, but the department will also consider other areas. **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will:
Hold a terminal degree in kinesiology, exercise science, exercise physiology, nutrition, or a related area; professional terminal degrees and ABD candidates may also be considered
Demonstrate dedication and excellence in teaching, including the ability to use general and discipline-specific technology to support student learning in an area of specialization complementary to the current faculty
Demonstrate a successful scholarship portfolio beyond the dissertation, and commitment to university and community service
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates that:
Possess high quality, college-level teaching experience with an articulate pedagogical approach, particularly that integrates experiential learning
Maintain advanced disciplinary certifications, such as the ACSM CEP, ATC, NSCA CSCS or CPSS, NCHEC CHES, RDN, educator’s license, etc.
Have experience mentoring and supporting students through professional and academic graduate program applications
Demonstrate successful mentorship of undergraduate student research projects
