Edge Hotel School
Edge Hotel School provides a new kind of higher education provision in hospitality and events management, where students’ academic study in the classroom is integrated with regular experience working with industry professionals in Wivenhoe House Hotel (a 4-star hotel based on the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.’s Colchester Campus).
The School’s ethos emphasises strong industry engagement.
Since 2018, the School has been fully integrated as a department in the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. In December 2020, the University Steering Group endorsed ambitious plans for the continued growth of the School and a phased start of research activity.
At Undergraduate level, the School currently provides degree courses in hospitality and events and soon tourism management, as accelerated 2-year programmes as well as 3-year courses. Colleagues in the School are strongly committed to excellence in education. In the 2020 National Student Survey, students gave the School a rating of 100% for overall satisfaction.
Duties of the Role
The School is looking for an enthusiastic and professional colleague who will support the School strategy and produce research in the setting of the strong cross-disciplinary culture that exists across the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. It is expected that research will build on existing strengths of other departments as well as seeking research opportunities connected to having a 4-star hotel on campus, and identifying new and distinctive research questions that will frame the School’s research identity. Generating external income to support research and knowledge transfer, and laying foundations for a submission to REF2026, will be important strands of the new strategy. The post holder will also support the delivery of teaching and learning activities within the department in the areas of hospitality, events and tourism management to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Skills and qualifications required
You will have, or be close to completion of a relevant doctoral degree in in Hospitality, Tourism or Events or have significant professional experience and practice, together with experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. You will be passionate about the hospitality and or events industry and will have professional/managerial experience in at least one of these industries.

Team working
The successful candidate will be joining a small team of academic and professional services colleagues in the School, led by the School’s Director. A collegiate approach and strong commitment to team working will be essential.
