The purpose of this role will be to have specific responsibility for research, for developing research objectives and proposals for a research project in cardiovascular disease. You will be expected to plan and conduct work using approaches or methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research, and will be responsible for writing up work for publication. You will join an established team, led by Prof David Bates whose main areas of research interest include angiogenesis in cardiovascular disease and alternative splicing.
This project is funded through a British Heart Foundation project grant working to develop a new treatment for peripheral vascular disease.  The host laboratory, Tumour and Vascular Biology laboratories, specialise in cardiovascular, cancer, and eye disease. The post will help test the hypothesis that alternative splicing can be modified to stimulate revascularisation of tissues after femoral artery ischemia in human and animal models. You should have some experience of endothelial or monocyte cell biology, immunofluorescence and imaging techniques and knowledge of endothelial cell and vascular biology as a whole. Experience in in vivo animal models of vascular disease would be an advantage, and particularly hind limb ischemia models in mice.
You will have the opportunity to use your initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend your research portfolio and identify opportunities and assist in writing bids for research grant applications. Prepare proposals and applications to both external and/or internal bodies for funding, contractual or accreditation purposes and publication / dissemination at national/international conferences, resulting in successful research outputs and collaborate with academic colleagues on areas of shared interest for example, course development, collaborative or joint research projects.
