Oncology Registrar
Full Time-Flexible schedule

Principal Responsibilities/Tasks
**Qualified candidates must be a
Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) through NCRA**
Performs daily coding and abstracting activities of the Tumor Registry area.
Identifies all cases of malignant diseases treated at the Medical Center.
Abstracts information from patient medical records through intensive medical record review and enters the information into the abstract computer system. Abstract information should include at a minimum, demographic characteristics, history of cancer, diagnostic procedures, diagnosis, state, extent of disease and treatment.
Maintains records of living patients to obtain end-result information on the quality and length of survival.
Codes oncology data.
Codes diagnoses (including typography and morphology) of identified cancer patients using ICD-0 (oncology) 3rd Edition coding guidelines and principles.
Ensures a coding accuracy rate of at least 95% and enters assigned codes into the computer abstracting system.
Organizes input and maintains patient computer data to ensure conformance with operational standards for tumor registry and to meet the needs of the users of registry data.
Preserves the confidentiality and security of patient data stored in tumor registry files
Performs collaborative staging of all cases entered into the registry requiring staging.
Facilitates open communication with medical, nursing and allied health staff to ensure compliance with medical record policies, procedures and requirements.
Observes hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Attends and participates in regular department meetings, in-service training and other seminars and relevant professional/technical activities.
Provides technical assistance to other external Cancer Registries, as needed.
Maintains current credentials as a Registered Health Information Technician /Certified Tumor Registrar by attending appropriate continuing education credit courses.
Participates in educational activities of local, state and national tumor registrar associations as appropriate.

What You Need to Be Successful:
Experience and Education
Certification as Certified Tumor Registrar (or eligible) from the National Cancer Registrar Association required.
Minimum of an Associate Degree or other health information management credentials (CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CPC-9, etc.) preferred.Progressive experience as a health information technician or manager in a Tumor Registry, HIM Department or similar function.
