2022–2023 School Year **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. seeks an experienced, collaborative professional to join our faculty in August 2022 to teach English. Our ideal candidates will find it hard to contain their enthusiasm for vocabulary, grammar, writing, poetry, and literature. They will seek to share their ideas with colleagues and enjoy planning together. They will also recognize the importance of a constructivist approach to learning and will seek to empower students to take responsibility for their own learning. Experience utilizing Understanding By Design and Writing Revolution (Hochman Method) are a significant advantage. Primary Responsibilities Teach. Teach four sections of English, with no more than two courses total. This faculty member will play a vital role in teaching writing and guiding students in their vocabulary around literary terms and discussion skills around literary analysis. There are rich opportunities for this faculty member to collaborate on the authorship of the curriculum! Advise. In addition to teaching, faculty at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. serve as advisors. The advisor actively engages in the pastoral care of both children and parents as they navigate the academic program as well as early adolescence. Essential Qualifications An undergraduate or graduate degree in English or education Experience teaching English or humanities and dreaming, conceiving, designing, and iterating a fun and engaging curriculum Knowledge of and empathy for the social-emotional and developmental needs of pre-adolescent and adolescent students Experience with or an interest in helping students develop time management skills and effective note-taking strategies Ability to connect with adolescents while maintaining appropriate boundaries Strong attention to detail, superior written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate complex student information in a respectful and clear manner A sense of humor, empathy, and humility Demonstrated cultural competency, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidates will understand and value different perspectives; interact competently and respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks Proficient with Google Meet, Google Classroom, Zoom, and other digital learning platforms Because of our flexible classroom environment, the ability to lift up to 30 pounds and to move classroom furniture to suit their pedagogy Schedule Requirements A minimum of standard business hours Monday–Friday. Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends as necessary. Compensation and Benefits This appointment will begin in August 2022 and is a full-time position. The compensation package will be competitive for the region and commensurate with experience, degree attainment, and the national independent school market.
