What You Will Do:
POSITION SUMMARY
Obtains initial information on psychiatric patients, observes and documents patients' behavior, performs interventions and assists in registrations, transfers and reimbursement activities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Principal Duties:
1. Utilizes active listening skills to ascertain each patient's needs; responds in an appropriate manner.
2. Responds to needs of all crisis line callers in an appropriate manner in accordance with written procedures.
3. Accurately assesses lethality and initiates appropriate intervention with suicidal callers.
4. Provides crisis callers with accurate information and makes appropriate referrals.
5. Appropriately triages patients on arrival and prioritizes and processes cases in an efficient, courteous manner. Accurately identifies and differentiates immediate crisis and underlying pathology.
6. Assesses the problems and provides emotional support to the patient in crisis, while setting limits.
7. Conducts empathetic objective interviews with psychotic patients. Approaches depressed and/or suicidal patients in a non-threatening and supportive manner and is empathetic while maintaining a therapeutic relationship.
8. Obtains pertinent information from involved individuals while assessing a patient who is on an ECP; provides accurate information to individuals who have filed an ECP.
9. Assesses the potential for violent behavior and responds appropriately to assure the safety of patient and staff; de-escalates volatile situations according to written procedures.
10. Assists n the management of stretcher patients, including changing sheets, taking specimens to lab, obtaining lab results and documenting observations of restrained patients.
Crisis Counselor II 2
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
11. Collaborates with physicians and nursing staff in all aspects of patient care and appropriately consults with physician regarding case management.
12. Provides clear follow-up instructions to patients and their families to assure compliance with treatment plan.
13. Documents demographic and clinical information in the clinical record nd completes all paperwork related to case management in accordance with quality assurance standards and written procedures. Writes concise, coherent and accurate clinical summaries.
14. Accurately identifies and documents patient's chief complaint and precipitating events.
15. Documents clear psychosocial history of each patient.
16. Obtains collateral information from families, care providers and significant others when necessary.
17. Makes appropriate disposition plans with psychiatrist and other agencies to assure continuity of care.
18. Obtains pertinent clinical information from substance abuse patients, assessesd motivation for treatment and potential for withdrawal reaction. Recommends treatment plan based on assessment.
19. Correctly identifies types of visits and catchment areas and completes central log, Kardex and billing slips.
20. Accurately completes paperwork necessary for admissions, voluntary and involuntary transfers, ECP reimbursement, registration, certification and billing.
Customer Service:
1. Greets customers in courteous, friendly, respectful and professional manner at all times, including maintaining eye contact when appropriate.
2. Follows communication protocols to both internal and external customers, including introducing him/herself with job title and experience, asking open ended questions, such as How may I be of help to you? using the customer's name as soon as it is learned.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Attained Level: Advanced Professional
Preferred: Courses in crisis intervention and grief counseling.
Completed Course Work/Program: Masters Degree in Psychology, Counseling or related field.
