The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $3 ,513.00/month to $3,906.00/ month.

About the Position
Under close supervision by the Director of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and Student Access Programs (SAP), the Academic Engagement Coach will be trained by a higher level SSP professional to show the incumbent how to assist with the coordination and implementation of programming. The incumbent will also be trained on other opportunities for EXCEL program participants to engage in the life of the campus and participate in activities that encourage personal and academic growth and well-being; improve academic performance and retention; and increase community involvement. The incumbent serves as a point person to collaborate with units, campuses, and people to promote a holistic view for EXCEL students, including collaborating and connecting students with divisions such as ASI, ACCE, the Math Lab, the Science Lab, the Library, Health Center, Accessibility Services, Undocually Services, Project HOPE and other academic and student life support services and activities.
The Academic Engagement Coach is a trainee position under the Student Services Professional (SSP) IA classification, an entry level classification in the SSP series. Permanent status cannot be earned in a trainee position. Upon successful completion of training and satisfactory performance under the SSP IA classification (not to exceed 12 months), this position will evolve to the next classification level - SSP IB. The incumbent, under the SSP IB classification, would be expected to perform similar duties with greater independence and under more limited supervision.
This is a grant funded position. If this position is reclassified to a SSP IB classification, this appointment cannot exceed three years from the initial date of hire. The 3-year maximum includes time spent in the SSP IA trainee classification.
Responsibilities
Under close supervision and training, Academic Engagement Coaches are primarily responsible for supporting EXCEL participants at CSU East Bay. Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Assist in the Coordination and Implementation of Student Engagement and Success Activities and Processes
Assist in providing students with a comprehensive range of university and community resources for holistic development and support.
Assist and learn how to develop and maintain equity in students' access to services and resources that support students' engagement and holistic well-being.
Assist with scheduling workshops and training programs for student leaders.
Learn how to support EXCEL student programs sponsored by EXCEL and other programs in Student Equity and Success.
Assist with other student engagement and success projects that arise throughout the year on an as-needed basis.
Advocate on behalf of students to ensure equitable access to resources necessary to support engagement and academic success
Promote EXCEL programs and activities through multiple online social media platforms.
Assist in the design and distribution, a monthly online newsletter highlighting EXCEL student activities.
Academic Advisement and Wholistic Counseling
Provide one on one student advisement including e-advising and counseling.
Assist in facilitating group workshops and check-ins
Ensure all EXCEL students served by the ACCE receive support to achieve academic success.
Support students to follow their student success plans that align the students' major and career pathways.
Monitor student degree progress to determine appropriate advising interventions; and make referrals to EXCEL Counselors to address needs.
Assist with Annual EXCEL Events
Assist in the coordination of EXCEL Welcome and Orientations.
Assist in the coordination of EXCEL Graduation Celebration.
Assist in the coordination of EXCEL participation in campus-wide student events such as Al Fresco, Welcome Day, Education Summit, and the Environmental and Sustainability Expo.
Other Duties as Assigned/Collaborative Opportunities
Collaborate with CSUEB on undocumented and first-generation students' events.
Represent EXCEL in collaborative efforts with CSUEB to provide university-sponsored student life, engagement, and success.
Respond to student needs, inquiries, and other emergent issues.

Required Qualifications
Ability to learn and apply basic undergraduate academic policies, procedures and information that contributes to undergraduate student success.
Possess the skill set to seek appropriate academic advising information, consulting with supervisor to confirm accuracy and timeliness of information, as needed.
Excellent oral, written and organizational skills, and ability to respond quickly and accurately to requests.
Willingness to and the ability to learn the use of advising technology platforms such as MyCSUEB, Bay Advisor (EAB Navigate), Google Suite and Zoom for academic advising.
Demonstrate a desire to learn more about advising students on our campus.
Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with highly diverse faculty and staff.
Demonstrate compassion, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds of the students we serve.
Flexibility and willingness to respond to other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; and the techniques and methods of interviewing.
Ability to gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences and interviews; clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; write clear and concise reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty.
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
Prior advising, counseling, or leadership experience are highly desirable.
Condition(s) of Employment
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan, as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminal records check, verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references and/or verification of work history is required for employment. Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment of current Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offered the position.
All background checks are conducted through the university's third party vendor, Accurate. LiveScan is conducted through the University Police Department.
