RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
The Assistant Vice President for Student Success and Community Engagement reports to the Vice Provost and is an integral member of the Provost's leadership team.
Oversees and provides leadership and guidance on a range of division-level and institutional change initiatives focused on innovating for student success and special initiatives that promote community partnerships and regional educational pipeline partnerships. Leads strategic partnership development with community/external stakeholders to facilitate the planning and development of collaborative initiatives that impact student success outcomes and that expand pathways for access to regional educational opportunities.
Provides guidance with long-range strategic planning efforts using student success and other relevant data to identify barriers to completion and collaborates across divisions to advance a campus-wide strategy to eliminate student equity gaps. Contributes to the growth and development of effective and culturally relevant student academic success practices and supports community partnerships to ensure alignment with the University's strategic priorities. Offers guidance and advice to the Vice Provost on new and/or existing initiatives and/or policies related to upholding inclusive excellence within the division, through community outreach and educational partnerships, and student success. Works closely with the AVP for Academic Programs and Continuous Improvement to promote clear curricular pathways, timely degree progression, and to eliminate administrative barriers that impede student success. Works closely with the AVP for Faculty Affairs, Success and Equity to enhance faculty and staff development to promote greater understanding of inclusive excellence, barriers to student success, and culturally relevant practices.
Develops innovative student success and community partnerships working with cross-divisional teams to design and implement student success initiatives including University Experience. In this capacity, works closely with executive leadership, administrators, and staff across divisions and Deans, program chairs, and faculty across academic programs to: align student success and community initiatives with data-informed strategies that advance University strategic priorities and GI 2025 goals; integrate with the work of other student success areas across divisions to be culturally responsive to the needs of CSUCI's diverse student body; and communicate continuous improvement recommendations that increase retention, promote timely degree progression, and close equity gaps.
Cultivates campus interest in sharing best practices to increase the visibility of innovations that result from student success and community initiatives at CSUCI, regionally, and nationally. Oversees complex departmental budgets and supervises professional staff engaged in a range of administrative functions. Assist with development and advancement activities; serves as a member of the Provost Council and represents the Vice Provost on committees as needed; and oversees specific student success and community initiatives and other projects assigned by the Vice Provost.
Provides leadership and oversight for grant initiatives to increase institutional capacity for addressing systemic inequities that disproportionately impact historically and currently under served populations. In this capacity, serves as the Title V Project Director directing the management of programmatic and fiscal operations of HSI capacity building projects and serves as the Foundation for Student Success Liaison. Assures that grant projects operate in compliance with all sponsor regulations and attends in-person and conference call meetings convened by sponsors.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice Provost.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
Requires a doctoral degree in Education/Higher Education Policy or related field and 5 years of experience in higher education administration. Extensive experience with strategic program development and implementation, evaluation and reporting, and building community educational partnerships. Experience leading and facilitating collaborative work across university divisions, departments, academic programs, and diverse communities. Experience working and building collaborative partnerships with a broad range of organizations including public agencies, K-12, non-profits, community-based, business, governmental, and national organizations. Ability to strategically plan and serve as a catalyst for organizational change, cultivate a shared vision with others, and motivate others to transform vision into action. Leadership approach must be student-centered, collaborative and focused on data-informed decision-making. Ability to practice a high level of diplomacy, significant experience interacting with representatives of federal and state funding agencies, CSU and UC system-wide offices, university and college presidents, and national educational associations to build regional, statewide, and national networks. Ability to conceptualize, plan, and bring to fruition high-stakes initiatives with support by diverse stakeholders (i.e. faculty, executive leadership, staff, students, and community); ability to manage highly complex budgets and multiple projects. Ability to prioritize and execute a wide range of projects simultaneously and produce various reports for key university and community constituency groups. A sophisticated knowledge of institutional capacities and challenges of a CSU campus and HSI. Working knowledge of OMB Circulars A110, A21, DOE Title V grant program and EDGAR guidelines and regulations and successful experience interacting with representatives of federal and state funding agencies.
