Essential Job Functions
The primary purpose of the Exceptional Children's Teacher Assistant
 is to support and assist the Exceptional Children's program by facilitating academic and behavioral interventions for students with disabilities and evaluating its effectiveness.  Other duties include performing a variety of technical and clerical tasks to support the Exceptional Children's program.
Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Assist students with learning, reinforce and clarify instructions, conduct short sessions on improving study skills, create and modify materials to match student abilities, modify tests for students, and provide one-on-one assistance as needed.
Assist teachers with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.
Work with individual students and/or lead small group instruction.
Work with EC teachers and other staff members to facilitate the
MTSS
process.
Maintain effective classroom management that recognizes and addresses learning and behavior needs.
Assist with facilitating academic instruction and special programming for students.
Share responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in areas of the school.
Maintain positive and constructive communication with students and families.
Adhere to staff expectations and handbooks.
Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, families, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics and state and federal laws.
Comply with state and federal education statutes.
Treat all students in a fair and equitable manner.

Gathers readily available information from office records to draft e-mails, memos, and other documents. Proofreads documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic formatting. Provides answers to requests for general information in written format.  
Problem Solving:
Identifies and recognizes problems that have established precedents and limited impact. Refers non-standard questions and problems to higher levels.
Knowledge-Program:
Understands general operation of functional unit, to include knowledge of staff and program responsibilities. Applies knowledge necessary to provide answers to frequently asked questions. Uses general knowledge of program procedures, methods, and practices to refer clients to resources
