With more than 160 wooded acres on the South Side of the city, as a predominantly black and minority serving institution, CSU serves a diverse student population of 2,500 students in undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree-granting programs across five colleges–Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Health Sciences, and Pharmacy. The University seeks an inspired and experienced academic leader to enhance the effectiveness, impact, and visibility of the College of Arts and Sciences. The College comprises 11 departments, 10 Master’s degree programs, and seven Post-Baccalaureate certificates, as well as five special programs—CSU-TV, Military Science, Pre-Law Education, Pre-Medical Education and WSCU Radio, and three centers—Calumet Resource Center, The Center for STEM Education and Research, and the Neighborhood Assistance Center [ ****Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean oversees the academic, personnel, financial, and administrative affairs, providing leadership and overall direction to the educational, research, support, and service initiatives of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Dean is responsible for the implementation of all academic programs, including strategic planning, quality assessment, student and faculty recruitment, resource development and allocation, and representation to external entities. The Dean will be the external face of the College, advocating on its behalf and developing relationships across CSU and beyond.
Qualifications include
: an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited university in a discipline represented within the College and a record of experience and scholarship compatible with the appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of senior experience as a dean, associate dean, or department chair within a college of arts and sciences; experience in and an aptitude for fundraising and grantsmanship; and keen insights into the issues and opportunities in the academic disciplines, research, and instruction, with the ability to meet the challenges inherent in academic reform that address the needs of a diverse learning community.
