This is a fixed term appointment for 1 year
The London School of Economics is a cosmopolitan university situated in the vibrant centre of London that specialises in the study of social sciences.
LSE’s Data and Technology Services division provides services to over 10,000 staff and student users.
The Data Analyst will take a lead on the analysis of data and the design, technical development, and deployment of data solutions for services provided to LSE by the Data and Technology Services division. Working as part of the Data and Development Team and the role will focus on student related data and priorities will be set working directly with the Educate for Global Impact learning organisation program. The role will be involved across all aspects of service delivery including project work and continuous service improvement.
The role requires broad knowledge and experience in working with data, with a focus on identifying, collecting, and preparing data from multiple sources for onwards analysis, visualisation, and presentation. This will include the use of specialist tools such as Alteryx and Tableau. The data landscape at LSE covers COTS (customised off the shelf), SaaS (software as a service), bespoke business applications, and information from a variety of internal and external sources. The role will work across this landscape, including collaborating with and supporting colleagues across LSE in their own analysis and use of data.
Candidates should have:
Practical experience of working with data visualisation tools to include:
Development of data sources and related metadata
Use of formulae and calculated fields to enhance data
Worksheets and dashboards for interactive analysisPractical experience of working with graphical ETL and data preparation tools to include:
Practical experience of working with graphical ETL and data preparation tools to include:
Extraction and blending of data from multiple sources
Use of formulae and calculated fields to enhance data
Transformations, filters, aggregation, sampling
Tests and error handling
Preparation of data for use in other tools such as Tableau
Understand source code control and versioning, and be able to effectively use tools such as Git.
Experience of working within a project management methodology e.g. Agile with Scrum.
Knowledge and awareness of cyber security and data protection policies.
