WORK STATION:
Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, Jackson, MS
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The educator in this position is responsible for and participates in the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Education Programs.
Develop & present hands-on educational programs to school groups at museum.
Perform animal husbandry and training with a variety of species including reptiles, birds, and mammals.
Lead Summer Camps.
Lead Birthday Parties at MMNS with a live animal program.
Conduct teacher training workshops. Examples: Project WILD, Project WET
Write, edit, and/or coordinate production of necessary materials such as educational materials, brochures, and magazine articles.
Communicate/give presentations at professional fish and wildlife and educational meetings and conferences on the status and success of the program.
Serve on Museum-wide committees.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE OR SKILLS REQUIRED:
Previous teaching experience and demonstrated knowledge of biology and ecology
Animal Handling Skills
Ability to communicate both in writing and speaking
Ability and desire to work with audiences of all ages
Ability and desire to develop and conduct educational programs
Ability to work well with staff and supervisors
Computer skills required: word processing and spreadsheets.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Daily hours will vary according to schedule and activities. Will require weekend and evening work. May require some overnight travel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in wildlife/fisheries, ecology/biology or a related field and four years of experience relating to job function.
STARTING SALARY: $15.00/hour, no benefits
