Salary
£27,924 to £40,927 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £31406 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
Senior Research Fellow £40,927 to £50,296 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
We are looking to appoint two researchers whose expertise lies in either
statistical inference or
mechanistic biological modelling, to work with Prof. Gary Mirams and his team on a Wellcome-funded project entitled “Developing cardiac electrophysiology models for drug safety studies”. The central aim of our project is to develop and improve mechanistic models of ion currents in the heart to the stage that they can be used for prediction of drug action and subsequent clinical pro-arrhythmic risk.

You will be able to carry out research of a high standard, and evidence, through your experience, how you will undertake original research of international excellence. It will be key that you prepare your work for publication in leading journals and contribute to its distribution at national and international meetings.
You will be an organised researcher who can evidence
A PhD, or equivalent, in mathematics or a relevant branch of mathematics, statistics, control engineering, physics or a closely related discipline.
For the Research Associate/Fellow post only we will also accept candidates near to completion of a PhD
EITHER
Knowledge of statistical parameterisation/optimisation/inference applied to mechanistic modelling.
Programming skills, including optimisation/inference in Matlab/Python/R/Stan or similar.
OR
Mechanistic biological modelling
Programming skills, including numerical solution of differential equations in Matlab/C/Python or similar.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
For the Senior Research Fellow appointment, you will additionally evidence
Ability to devise, advise on and manage a research programme.
A consistent track record of publishing international-quality peer reviewed publications.

This full-time post is available from 1 April 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter and is fixed term to 31st January 2025. Applications are welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 21.75 hours per week).
