What You Will Do:
General Summary
Under limited supervision, translates the educational needs and objectives of a unit within Patient Care Services into consistent and effective educational programs; assessing and improving patient care processes and serving as an expert clinical resource to the staff. Acts as a support to the unit and division leadership in ensuring excellence in clinical care, patient care, and clinical practice. Focuses on developing staff to work in today's environment and developing the nursing practice of tomorrow through evidence-based practice development linking relevant research to practice and best practice integration.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Provides consistent delivery of education by involving appropriate colleagues, customers, and staff to ensure commitment and knowledge transfer. Ensures that staff clinical training and education needs are understood, documented, and addressed in a timely manner.
Utilizes education to support UMMC leadership in ensuring staff commitment to hospital objectives.
Introduces evidence-based practice improvements to facilitate the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care processes. Provide leadership to accomplish objectives through innovation and expert knowledge
Collaborates in developing and implementing practice standards that achieve strategically relevant patient care outcomes in selected patient populations.
Develops and implements an effective method of identifying and matching Patient Care Services staff needs that can be addressed through education.
Ensures that educational programs and specific content offerings meet divisional, unit, and regulatory standards for design, content, teaching, evaluation, and documentation.
Designs and develops comprehensive clinical orientation that facilitates the timely deployment of competent staff in conjunction with education leadership. Ensures that evidence-based practice standards and institutional policies and strategies requiring excellence from Patient Care Services staff are met in coordination with unit leadership.
Provides input to Patient Care Services leadership on staff accountabilities and competencies.
Effectively diagnoses patient care delivery variation and other issues that minimize the consistency of practice. Evaluate new therapeutic/preventative interventions that target patient needs not met by current care delivery strategies.
Provides individual and group follow-up to selected new hires from hire date through 18 months post-hire. Collaborates with staff and unit leadership to establish and manage a system to measure the effectiveness of training.
Monitors unit compliance with hospital and regulatory standards and develops and implements strategies to address identified practice gaps.
Consults supports and mentors clinical nursing staff in collaboration with unit leadership. In conjunction with unit leadership, identifies and analyzes trends in satisfaction, quality outcomes, and practice excellence using data to guide continuing educational efforts and initiatives to advance nursing practice.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Education and Experience
Must have Oncology Experience
A masters' degree in nursing or related health science field is required.
Current licensure in the related field is required (i.e. nursing, physical therapy).
Five years of progressively responsible clinical experience. Two years of experience must be in a mentoring/training /leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Clinical and professional knowledge of current issues relevant to patient care delivery. Additional knowledge in the areas of professional development, group process, change management, and effective leadership is also required.
General knowledge of PC and database management software packages is required.
Highly effective verbal and written skills are required to work with all levels of hospital personnel, administrators, and clinical staff.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage programs, staff, and large-scale projects. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and follow through on assignments and/or projects. Ability to analyze and conceptually develop ideas, proposals, and programs.
Ability to acts as a role model by displaying appropriate behaviors and skills through direct and indirect patient care.
Demonstrated leadership abilities, including collaborative, consultative, and coaching skills are required.
The ability to develop collaborative programs and projects with other disciplines is required. Must be able to contribute to team effectiveness, build relationships and facilitate improvements.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age-specific needs.
Patient Safety
Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department, or unit patient safety initiatives.
Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
Reports adverse events and near misses appropriating management authority.
Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
