Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Director of Institutional Research and Analytics, the Associate Director for Student Success Analytics provides leadership on success analytics and reporting. The incumbent develops and sustains the analytic infrastructure for decision-making about student success and Graduation Initiative GI 2025. The incumbent stewards student and student success data in the service of academic business intelligence; develops and oversees student success staff, related datasets, tables and views in the IR&A Data Warehouse, reporting, and analytic processes that sustain the Beach accurate reporting and analytical solutions in regard to retention, graduation, persistence, time to degree and other student success goals.
Key Responsibilities Manages, coaches, mentors, evaluates and counsels junior and senior analysts and student assistant
Conducts basic, advanced, and complex statistical analyses, reporting and data research
Create and update departmental interactive reports and dashboards
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Working experience in supervising, evaluating and mentoring data analysts and student assistants. Must be an effective manager with great communication and problem-solving skills and positive attitude. Knowledge of research techniques. Knowledge of the methods of gathering and analyzing research data. Knowledge of statistical procedures and principles. Working knowledge of desktop word processing and spreadsheet software. Ability to assist in preparation of questionnaires. Ability to gather, compile and analyze research data. Ability to perform basic and advanced statistical analyses and reporting using PC-based software, e.g. SAS, R, Python or SPSS. Ability to present data in various media (e.g., paper, electronic, web-based, Tableau). Expert knowledge of website utilities. Ability to write and speak clearly. Ability to work effectively with people from diverse racial/ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to work collaboratively and facilitate a customer service orientation.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a vision of excellence.
Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by an advanced understanding and applications of statistics, data mining, programming and data visualization is required. Graduate study in computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration, or engineering is highly desired.
This position requires a minimum of 5 years of working experience in technical research, statistical work in the collection, compilation, and analysis of student success metrics, rates and data, data warehousing and higher education business intelligence as well as predictive modeling. A relevant work experience in Institutional Research in higher education including interpretation and presentation of data, demonstrated working experience of SQL/PLSQL programming, Tableau, People Soft, Python scikit-learn or R caret packages will be given due consideration.
This position requires a minimum of 3 years of working experience of managing and leading a team of data analysts. The managerial experience requires recruiting, evaluating, coaching, and optimizing talents and staff in a strong statistical, analytic, data management, and reporting and data visualization line of work.
