As substitute teachers, you are responsible for the continuity of instruction in the absence of regular faculty member (this includes teacher). All per diem Substitute Teachers are called on an as needed basis and may be needed for one day, one week or one month. Our need for Substitutes will vary from day-to-day and week-to-week and, as such, we cannot guarantee work each day.
Responsibilities
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:
Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school policies;
Ensure the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students;
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
Report to office upon arrival and departure at school;
Review lesson plans, materials, and/or instructions left by absent teacher;
Report student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or discipline problems to the school principal immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible;
Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate;
Organize students for effective instruction;
Dismiss all students from the classroom before leaving the building;
Comply with and support school and division regulations and policies;
Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities; and
Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school policies and practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience teaching or working with school age children;
Teaching capabilities in all subject areas;
Excellent communication and organizational skills;
The ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
The ability to follow oral and written directions;
The ability to address the various learning styles of students;
The ability to implement strategies, activities and techniques for promoting quality student performance in both academic and social behavior based on student's prior knowledge and experience;
The ability to effectively contribute to and manage an individual program plan for students with special needs;
The ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students;
The ability to demonstrate fair and ethical judgments;
The ability to apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student behavior;
The ability to display problem solving, cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies; and
The ability to use classroom instructional time appropriately and wisely.
Qualifications:
Candidate must be at least 18 years of age;
Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school or General Education Certificate (GED); and
Candidate must attend an orientation/training session.
Terms of Employment:
Building Substitute must report to the main office every day / Monday through Friday
Per diem salary will be $150 per day worked
Substitute Teachers assigned to a Grade K – 8 class are expected to arrive by 7:45 A.M; classes in
Grades K – 8 begin at 8:10 A.M. Substitute teachers are dismissed at 2:45 P.M; classes in Grades K – 8 end at 2:35 P.M.
