Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Clinical Health And Social Experiences Research Team
Rowan University
The Clinical Health And Social Experiences (CHASE) Research Team in the Department of Psychology at Rowan University is hiring a postdoctoral research fellow. We're looking for a motivated junior colleague to join our team of research staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students, led by Dr. Dani Arigo. Our team focuses on understanding psychological and social influences on health and health behavior, to inform the design and improvement of health behavior change interventions for physical activity, weight control, disordered eating, substance use disorders, and chronic illness self-management. Our current NIH- and SAMHSA-funded projects use intensive longitudinal assessment methods (e.g., ecological momentary assessment, daily diary), experimental and mixed methods, clinical trials, UI/UX design principles, and digital health tools (e.g., smartphone apps, wearable fitness monitors, and social media platforms), to identify and intervene on psychosocial mechanisms of behavior change. Trainees with interests in any of these areas, particularly social comparison processes, behavioral approaches to cardiovascular disease prevention, women's health (during midlife or college), digital health, physical activity, and/or substance use disorders, are invited to submit an application.
The incoming postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by Dr. Arigo and will have access to training resources across Rowan University, Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM), and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU). Specifically, the successful candidate will have opportunities to work with multidisciplinary teams in integrated primary and specialty care settings, including RowanSOM's Neuromusculoskeletal Institute and New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging and Cooper University Hospital/CMSRU's Behavioral Medicine Programs. These opportunities afford contact with a wide range of populations, including underserved groups in urban and rural areas. The fellow also will have the opportunity to work with scholars and clinicians from Drexel University's WELL Center to deliver evidence-based behavioral interventions for obesity, in the context of an NIH-funded clinical trial.
Primary responsibilities for this position include data management and data analysis (experience with multilevel modeling preferred); developing first-authored manuscripts and assisting with manuscript preparation as a co-author; preparing and delivering presentations for professional conferences (e.g., posters and oral presentations); contributing to grant proposals and to recruitment and data collection processes; and assisting in mentoring graduate and undergraduate trainees. The postdoctoral fellow also will have opportunities to conduct clinical assessment and intervention sessions and to receive supervision relevant for professional licensure in psychology (if desired), and to develop small pilot studies.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, health psychology, social psychology, public health, or a related field relevant to the work described above. Applicants should have proficiency in scientific writing, time management, research design, and mentorship of junior trainees, and should be able to effectively interact with participants (in person and remotely) and work independently. Preference will be given to applicants with exceptional skills in data management and statistical analysis (using SAS, SPSS, or R) and/or previous experience with ambulatory physical activity assessment, intensive assessment methods, conducting systematic reviews, science communication, UI/UX design, or software development.
To apply, please complete the online application and submit the following:(1) a cover letter describing interest and qualifications for the position; (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a representative publication (if available), and (4) the names and contact information of three professional references. Direct questions about this position to Dr. Dani Arigo (****). Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.
