The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing in the College of Engineering, Computer Science & Construction Management is seeking a full-time lecturer in Advanced Manufacturing. The successful candidate will be able to teach a range of courses in the Advanced Manufacturing and Applied Robotics program with the possibility of teaching mechanical and mechatronic engineering courses depending on expertise. The department's three programs share several courses and faculty members regularly teach across the disciplines. **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success.
Minimum Qualifications:
The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a master's degree in manufacturing, engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates with a bachelor's degree and significant industrial experience in manufacturing, engineering, or a closely related field may be considered. Candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, proficiency in written and oral English, and expertise in either advanced manufacturing, robotics, automation, mechanical engineering, or mechatronic engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with a terminal degree in their discipline. Relevant industrial experience in an advanced manufacturing environment is strongly preferred. Preferred expertise areas include automation, programming, robotics, PLCs, computer-controlled machining, additive manufacturing, and project management. Consideration will be given for professional credentials such as a professional engineer's license and/or manufacturing specific certifications such as CMfgE or CMfgT. Preference is given for candidates with prior teaching experience as well as those that are bilingual.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of this lecturer position is teaching at the undergraduate level. Courses may include subjects such as introductory and advanced machining, automation, robotics, PLC programming, manufacturing management, and engineering graphics. Position duties may also include supervision of one or more of the advanced manufacturing laboratories, student advising, capstone project advising, program outreach, and industrial outreach activities that promote business, workforce, manufacturing policy, and economic development. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.
The Department:
The Department of MMEM offers two accredited engineering B.S. degrees: Mechanical Engineering (367 current majors) and Mechatronic Engineering (156 current majors) and a B.S. degree in Advanced Manufacturing and Applied Robotics (22 current majors). The Department also offers a minor in Advanced Manufacturing (24 current minors). MMEM is one of seven departments in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management.
The department prides itself in maintaining rigorous curricula, delivering programs that are practice-oriented with a strong design focus, and having accessible faculty who provide a high degree of personal attention to all students. A major strength of the department is the Capstone Design Program sponsored by industry partners that provides hands-on design projects for cross-disciplinary teams of mechanical and mechatronic engineering and advanced manufacturing students to design, build, and test real-world solutions. The department has several active student clubs and organizations that include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Institute of Mechatronic Engineers (AIME), Materials Research Society (MRS), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), and the Alternative Energy Club. The College and Department typically support several major extracurricular student projects such as the Baja SAE competition, the Formula SAE competition, the SMUD Solar Regatta, and National Association of Rocketry High-Powered competition. Chico State has a tradition of performing well in these competitions.
