The inpatient program at the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus works to meet the complex needs of adults who need support and supervision as they struggle with mental health. Our diverse , nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and occupational and recreational therapists is dedicated to evidence-based, compassionate, and patient-centered care.

The BHU is comprised of two independent units, 6 North and 6 South. In all, we have 37 beds available for acute care of adults who are struggling with a spectrum of psychiatric diagnoses. Patients are provided with a single room, equipped with a private bathroom and shower. Each patient room is adorned with a hand-painted mural by a local artist, which provides the opportunity for a calm environment and peaceful contemplation during down-times in the program.
General Summary
Under the general administrative direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager is accountable for the delivery of patient care services which supports the strategic plan of the organization and achieves clinical and service quality objectives, in a clinical unit orc or care delivery site. This role is accountable for the quality of clinical services delivered, for the competency and performance of nursing staff, and for designing and maintaining systems to support multidisciplinary team function and continuity of services while working in coordination with Clinical Nurse Manager. The Assistant Nurse Manager also serves as a key participant in organizational project teams and workgroups at the organizational and unit level.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
Helps to manage and evaluate the system of care delivery and clinical services on one or more patient care units which helps to meet clinical and service quality objectives alongside the Nurse Manager.
Assumes a leadership role in managing the quality of services provided at the unit level.
Implements systems to assess and respond to customer perceptions of services. Is visibly involved in obtaining customer feedback, incorporating customer requirements into service design, and requiring staff performance that meets customer requirements.
Implements systems to manage and improve the performance of unit-level processes and to improve the performance, consistency and coordination of cross-functional processes.
Teach and coaches staff in effective process analysis and improvement techniques and in using data to assess and improve unit performance.
Provides leadership visibility and presence during non-traditional shifts, working alongside the manager to maintain employee/supervisor relationships, and also assists in balancing the time management for the clinical nurse manager.
Assistant Nurse Manager is on-point to provide on-site coverage for the Manager when they are off-site for any protracted period.
Manages human fiscal resources to meet financial goals and achieve identified outcomes.
Develops and implements clinical utilization strategies which s support clinical pathways, discharge planning, and case management.

What You Need to Be Successful:
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland,
or
eligible for licensure due to Compact state agreements outlined through the Maryland Board of Nursing, is required.
BSN (Bachelor's Science of Nursing) required.
Masters' degree with management coursework preferred. Incumbents are expected to matriculate in an accredited graduate program within one year of their employment and have five years to complete the degree.
Three years of recent experience in an acute care facility with one year of recent experience in the clinical specialty required.
Psych Nursing Exp strongly preferred
