Job Goal
The Director of the Somerville Family Learning Collaborative (SFLC), the district’s Department of Family Engagement and Community Partnerships, develops and executes operating plans to achieve district goals and long-term vision of family engagement as a lever towards student success. The Director oversees all aspects of the SFLC organization including Early Childhood Services (home visiting, playgroups, parent support, grants management and cross-sector alignment), Student Enrollment, Multilingual Services, Homeless Services, Basic Needs (resources and referrals), and supports a team of School-Based Liaisons with school principals to ensure equity, inclusion, and access to high quality programs.
The Director of the Somerville Family Learning Collaborative provides leadership in the development and delivery of Family Engagement and Community Partnerships’ programming throughout the district. The Director is responsible for developing school-based family engagement systems and activities that create strong supports for teaching, learning and student achievement. The Director oversees the coordination of local
and grant family engagement and early childhood-funded initiatives aligned to School District goals.
The SFLC Director provides supervision for SFLC operations, delivery of quality services, evaluation of programs, budget management, and planning and implementation of new programs. The Director serves as the liaison to community groups, other agencies and funding sources, both public and private and has primary responsibilities for building strategic relationships in order to support children and families’ development, learning and equitable access.
Qualifications:
Possession of a Master Degree in Education, Social Work, Human Service Management or related field.
Five or more years of experience in an administrative role.
Three to five years of experience in a supervisory and management role.
Proven commitment to equity as demonstrated in the design and management of inclusive and accessible programs and supports.
Ability to set a vision of family engagement using data driven processes that impacts student success and to lead a team to action towards that goal.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations with the use of technology.
Bilingual/Bicultural strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Somerville community.
Responsibilities:
Program Development and Administration:
Develop and maintain consolidated programming and staffing for SFLC.
Provide supervision for: SFLC Leadership Team, including: Enrollment Director, Coordinator of Multilingual Services, Director of Early Childhood Services, Director of Basic Needs Homeless Services, Coordinator of Resources, Data and Communication, and Coordinator of Prenatal to School Entry Partnership Alignment and Grant Development.
Monitor programs and services provided by SFLC and oversee evaluation to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and that high quality services are provided.
Oversee delivery of family education, engagement, and literacy supports to community –based providers and agencies.
Collaborate with Early Childhood, Multilingual Learner Education, and Special Education Departments to develop and provide professional development programs and initiatives.
Collaborate with Director of Educator Development and Director of Equity and Excellence to plan and provide professional development on cultural diversity, culturally responsive and trauma-informed family engagement practices.
Develop and provide quality initiatives for programs from birth through kindergarten including home and center-based activities in collaboration with SomerPromise and the Department of Early Education..
Oversee recruitment, hiring, retention, evaluation and supervision of staff.
Monitor and evaluate SFLC staff training needs; develop and provide in-service and/or other training programs for staff.
Establish and maintain fiscal accountability, planning, budget preparation and maintenance of financial systems in coordination with the SPS Finance Office.
Develop program proposals and budgets for grant submission to the DEEC and other sources; comply with reporting requirements to funders.
Develop and manage sub-contracts and consultant services arrangements.
Monitor use and purchase materials for programs; schedule event space; maintain facilities used by SFLC programs.
Remain current in best ECE, ASOST, staff development, and family and community engagement practices; represent the SFLC in community initiatives and professional organizations (i.e. SomerPromise, Community Cabinet, etc.)
Develops programs and monitors alignment to School District strategic plan in order to meet these annual goals, along with managing short-and long-range planning for the SFLC.
Oversee the dissemination of public information (newsletters, calendars, web site) related to SFLC goals and programming.
Family and Community Outreach Support:
Facilitate collaboration for community needs assessment and planning; provide leadership and coordination for community planning bodies (i.e. ECAC; First 5 Steering Committee).
Reaches out into the community to draw in participants from across the diverse community, ranging in age from pre-k to school and adult learners in order to increase equitable access and serve all families.
Serves as part of a cross-departmental team that creates and executes mission driven family and community initiatives.
Collaborate with the SPS MLE Parent Initiative to plan and provide family education and literacy activities; collaborate in the training of ESOL participants to become Parent Leaders.
Collaborate with the SPS Special Education Department to provide parent and community education and support including inclusion playgroups.
Collaborate with SPS Departments and grant-funded programs to provide parent and community education and support.
Provide leadership and technical assistance to community-based family engagement activities and playgroups for young children.
Provide technical assistance to family and community engagement programs and enrichment programs for children.
Maintain collaborative relationship with community and University stakeholders.
Performs other tasks assigned by the District Administrator of Programs or designee.
