The EPSRC have funded the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., University of Cambridge, London School of Pharmacy (UCL) and the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory to undertake a substantial multi-disciplinary
programme of work exploring
Raman NanoTheranostics (RaNT)
We propose to develop a new clinical platform technology that combines optical multiplexed disease detection with specific therapeutic selection and monitoring. We will develop innovative nanoparticle (NP) constructs, uniquely safe to the body, coupled with novel readout technologies, capable of detecting signals from depths of >8 cm non-invasively, mediating targeted therapies with light and non-invasively monitoring the efficacy of these and other therapies. This will address a critical clinical need of the provision of accurate and early disease diagnosis accompanied by effective, patient and disease specific therapy.
You will participate in the above programme and provide day to day management of the RaNT laboratories. The post will be a key part of a team of leading scientists working to develop engineering and physical science solutions to solve the clinical needs in patient specific diagnosis and effective treatment of cancers.
Specifically, we seek to recruit an Experimental Officer to work in our RaNT labs at the interface between the disciplines of physics, chemistry, biology and medicine. In the Exeter labs we will require the EO to work on and support following activities:
the development, testing and spectral monitoring of hyperthermia methods using light and magnetic field mediated nanoparticle heating of cells and tissues
The development of Coherent Raman Scattering (CRS) microscopy to provide intracellular localisation of multiple NP cluster labels (multiplexed imaging) to demonstrate effective cellular uptake by target cells and organoids
the development of surface enhanced spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SESORS) from a proof of concept to a multiplexed deep tissue imaging tool, able to non-invasively probe functionalised nanoparticle constructs at depths of many cm and to directly monitor the tissue surrounding them
As outlined above this is highly cross-disciplinary and the ideal candidate would provide cell biology expertise, potentially in the area of cancer biology.
