Job Description:
The Assistant Dean for Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IRE) has responsibility for the collection and analysis of institutional data that supports decision making for the improvement and efficiency of College operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in setting directions for the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness as well as providing hands-on data analysis, interpretation of analysis, and preparation of reports for both internal and external use and distribution. The Assistant Dean will gather, integrate, and analyze data to support strategic planning, policy-making, resource allocations, enrollment projections, and other processes requiring sound strategic analysis. The Assistant Dean will conduct extensive survey research; using on-line and paper surveys, created both in-house and externally, and will keep up-to-date on best research and analysis practices.
The Assistant Dean also provides support for the work of the Executive Director for Assessment in developing and overseeing a program of assessment and feedback to enhance the effectiveness of the College's academic and administrative services with special emphasis on learning outcomes and planning. The Assistant Dean works closely with Assessment, using statistical analysis, data and survey research to support outcome measurement in the College's efforts to improve student learning and educational program outcomes, and course, curricular and program improvement.
The Assistant Dean will also be responsible for the preservation of survey and other IRE developed data for use by the institution in studies of College policies and operations, as well as suggesting to administration and departments ways in which survey research can be used as part of the decision-making process. They will be responsible for developing and coordinating the submission of data to external organizations (e.g. SUNY), analyzing data received from such organizations, and presenting the implications to the College and suggesting responses when appropriate.
The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness is part of the Division of Academic Affairs This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Provide support and analysis for institutional planning, program reviews, accreditation, accountability and assessment processes. Coordinate planning and research activities for institutional needs and accreditation processes.
Coordinate all college survey activity, provide analysis of survey results.
Work closely with senior administrators to provide data and analysis required for divisional planning and decision making. Serve on committees as a resource for data and analysis that enable programs and services.
Provide support for the development of the College's assessment program in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Faculty Senate Committee on Assessment and other division heads.
Report requested information to state and federal agencies as well as to external non governmental agencies or entities. Review data provided to external constituencies to ensure accuracy and relevancy
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
The Director will have a Master's degree (Doctorate preferred) in an appropriate academic discipline and will have at least five years of relevant experience in a higher education management/leadership role, in particular leading a multi-staff office.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with collecting and analyzing data in a higher education environment.
The successful candidate will have deep knowledge and understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods and statistics, outstanding writing and presentation skills, logical, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while attending to multiple projects simultaneously. The candidate will have the experience and ability to manage a team of analysts with extensive SAS programming and SQL knowledge. The person will be familiar with SAS reporting procedures, basic SQL, and extensive understanding of business intelligence and data store concepts. Experience and knowledge of Banner is preferred.
