Job Summary

**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is focused intently on its mission advancing Kentucky.

We believe **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. what we call the university of, for and with Kentucky is essential to creating a state that is healthier, wealthier and wiser.

We are committed to preparing students for lives of meaning and purpose and educating the skilled workforce the state needs to compete in a global economy through a career-ready curriculum that provides students with critical thinking and analytical skills and the creative capacity that they will use not simply to attain a job but to create more of them.

We are focused on research that tackles Kentucky's most vexing challenges from deaths from opioids and cancer and innovative solutions to our country's energy needs to investing in path-breaking approaches to questions of equity and access that break down historic systemic and systematic barriers around color or class, gender or identity.

We are growing a nationally regarded health-care system through strategic partnerships across Kentucky that is bringing primary and advanced specialty care to more people in need.

And at its heart, we are guided by a founding mission that is as relevant today as it was more than 155 years ago. We are a land-grant institution devoted to service in every corner and community of the Commonwealth whose name we bear and whose future we were created to secure.

Now, emboldened by a decade of progress record graduation and retention rates, historic levels of research expenditures and grants and a $2.1 billion philanthropy campaign UK is poised to thrive as one of the country's leading public research institutions.

With a new strategic plan focused squarely on how the institution can advance Kentucky in the 21st century, UK is seeking a provost who can work at the intersection of these missions, while focused squarely on ensuring academic excellence by empowering a world-class faculty of leading poets and authors, artists and musicians, scientists and scholars.

As the chief academic officer, the provost is charged with supporting all of UK's academic programs, 18 academic and professional colleges, more than 200 majors and an institution that is one of just eight in the country with a major academic health center and a full spectrum of academic colleges and professional schools on one contiguous campus.

As chief liaison with more than 3,000 faculty, the provost is charged with nurturing and growing a culture of collaboration across and among disciplines to further transform a strong curriculum into one that is nimbler and more responsive to a dynamic workforce and interdependent global economy.

Working closely with UK's deans, the provost will also lead efforts to identify and establish academic priorities for each college in a way that works in concert with the institution's strategic plan and priorities. A newly adopted plan The UK PURPOSE has identified five core principles that will empower and enliven that university's seminal mission to advance the state: Putting Students First
Taking Care of Our People
Inspiring Ingenuity
Ensuring Greater Trust, Transparency and Accountability
Bringing Together Many People, One Community
The provost will work with colleges on the resource management and budgeting necessary to align with institutional and academic priorities and to meet the metrics and goals associated with the strategic plan.

Directly reporting to UK President Eli Capilouto, and as a member of a 12-person administrative cabinet, the provost also is expected to provide senior-level counsel on the myriad issues that confront a growing institution with nearly 32,000 students and more than 20,000 employees.

**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is a dynamic and growing institution, one poised to establish itself among the top ranks of American public higher education. But that recognition isn't an end; it is a marker of the institution's capacious commitment to advancing Kentucky.

Academic excellence fueled by outstanding faculty, emboldened by a creative and modern curriculum and undergirded by transdisciplinary collaboration is an essential element in the university's continued progress and transformation. The provost is a vital leader in ensuring that success.
