Job Description:
The Professional Education Unit at the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Director of the Office of Educational Advisement and Field Experiences (OEAFE). The Director of the Office of Educational Advisement and Field Experiences supervises the office staff and provides coordination among all units of the Division of Education on matters including field experiences and placements; Office of Professional Education Services support for student advising; and accreditation support.
The Division of Education comprises four subunits (three academic departments and a support office): Department of Elementary Education and Reading; Department of Secondary Education and Educational Technology; Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling and Special Education; and OEAFE. The Division is pursuing accreditation from the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of office mission and goals.
Supervise the office staff and lead office staff meetings.
Oversee office staff and all aspects of the establishment of appropriate clinical placements for students.
Monitor SUNY and NYSED educator-preparation policy initiatives and changes and inform faculty and the Dean as appropriate.
Hire, train, and support field supervisors.
Work collaboratively with school personnel and the campus office to identify and remediate issues with clinical placements.
Oversee certification processes for the educator preparation programs.
Ensure that all office areas are adequately cross-trained and that a minimum level of service to constituents (e.g., students and faculty in the academic departments) is achieved.
Make recommendations to the Dean on matters related to educator preparation.
Participate in meetings of School and Division leadership.
Oversee allocation of NYSTCE vouchers for certification tests.
Review clinical-placement evaluations and correspond with field supervisors and cooperating teachers to support student progress.
Develop and document corrective action plans for pre-service teachers and counselors needing additional support to succeed in clinical experiences.
Serve as the Certification Officer on behalf of SUNY Oneonta, including overseeing the submission of institutional recommendations to NYSED's TEACH system and other certification-related duties as needed.
Administer the relevant financial account(s).
Oversee the collection of data in support of reporting obligations for the Division of Education required by AAQEP, SUNY, local, state, federal, and other external agencies.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications: master's degree in education, the social sciences, or other appropriate field; experience coordinating the placement of student teachers in K-12 public schools.
Preferred: leadership experience in higher education; experience creating field experience opportunities; demonstrated interpersonal communication skills that promote collaboration and collegiality; excellent written communication and presentation skills; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other offices/groups; strong organizational skills; and experience working with and serving diverse populations.
