The Department of English in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University invites applications for Associate Director of Writing Programs, at the rank of Principal Lecturer
with an anticipated start date of August 2022.
ASU, located within the dynamic metropolitan Phoenix area, is a Research I institution with outstanding research facilities and infrastructure support, known for its innovative and entrepreneurial vision. Our English department is a large, diverse unit of faculty committed to excellence in teaching, innovative research, and community engagement.
This
is a full-time, benefits-eligible appointment made on a fiscal year basis (July 1 – June 30).
Essential Functions of the Job:
Overseeing annual evaluations of Instructors in Writing Programs
Mentoring Writing Programs faculty
Resolving student complaints and grade appeals
Supporting bi-annual convocation events
Overseeing annual Composition Conference
Managing annual custom textbook revisions
Updating standard Writing Programs policy documents
Teaching undergraduate students in ASU Writing Programs courses
Teaching TA Practicum for incoming graduate students
Advising the Director of Writing Programs on matters of curriculum, program structure, and professional development
The Principal Lecturer (Associate Director of Writing Programs) will teach three (3) courses per calendar year (Fall, Spring, and Summer).
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in English Literature, Linguistics,
or related discipline in hand by the time of appointment.
At least
five years of experience of college-level teaching.
At least one year of leadership experience in a university writing program.
Desired Qualifications:
Theoretical grounding in writing studies and/or rhetorical studies pedagogy; area of specialty is open.
Experience teaching in-person and in online or hybrid formats.
Evidence of participation in rhetoric/composition conferences and/or other professional development.
Demonstrated success teaching underrepresented student populations and/or supporting diverse communities.
Training and/or experience in writing program administration.
