General Description:
Somerville Public Schools is seeking a Temporary High School Art Educator to teach high school arts with a strong background in Digital Arts(Adobe CS), Foundation/ Portfolio, and a variety of 2D/3D courses in a full-inclusion setting. The anticipated length for this position: late December through April 4, 2023.
Responsibilities include
Create and deliver unit/lesson plans that aligns with the Somerville Public Schools Visual Arts Program and MA DESE Visual Arts Frameworks
Visual arts instruction for all learners of various skill levels
Ability to acquire and facilitate classroom management systems – Aspen, Insights, Google classroom for assignments
Communications skills: Proficient in writing and editing to meet the needs of the students and with colleagues
Classroom Management: the ability to work in a fast-pace environment with creative solutions
Accurate and timely reporting of student grades and performance
Qualifications
Must have a visual arts degree in art education or with a visual arts degree
Required skillset for position:
strong background in Adobe CS – Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, Animate, etc.; experience with assisting students with their portfolio development for college entry; experience with arts integration curriculum development
Other media expertise: 2D-3D skills in drawing, painting, sculpture
Must be student-centered and work well in teams with students and colleagues
Must have experience in delivering instruction to groups of students in-person; virtual instruction is a plus
Working knowledge of MLE practices
Demonstrated collaborative teaching or exhibition practices for student work or with group of artists
Reports to
School Principal and the Interim K12 Supervisor of Art
