Telecom and Communications Specialist
Description/Job Summary
Position Summary
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Information Officer (D-CIO), the Telecom and Communications Specialist supports the effective use and access of telecommunications information and resources. This position is responsible for administering and implementing the college's telecommunications moves, adds, and changes, affecting timely repairs and configuration changes of telecom equipment and systems; acting as liaison to telecom contractors and service providers, addressing telecommunications needs across all segments including local, long distance, Internet, voice and video conferencing.
Responsibilities/Duties
Essential Duties
Identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems related to voice devices and systems
Install, deploy, and maintain telephones and maintain voice systems documentation
Coordinates, reviews, and performs all moves, adds, and changes required for effective daily telecommunication needs
Coordinates with Network Engineer and vendors to assist with cable management, wiring and outlet installations for network and telecom circuits
Repair data ports for classrooms, labs, offices and events as needed; or manage vendor support for repairs
Port numbers from Cisco to Microsoft
Manage Teams phone numbers, call queues and meetings
Manage Zoom phone numbers, issues and meetings
Required Qualifications
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of VoIP support experience
Minimum 5 years of Microsoft support experience
Minimum 5 years of customer service experience
Associate degree in computer science, or related field, or equivalent experience
Required Experience
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and one dealing with many complex and sensitive issues.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to work professionally and frequently within classrooms, data closets, and employee offices
Ability to utilize related hardware and software such as Sharepoint, Powershell, and Teams, for managing users and securely sharing information.
Knowledge of industry standards and best practices, and how they pertain to the Telecommunications role
