Integrated Arts Academy - K-5 Instructional Coach
The instructional coach serves as part of the school’s leadership team, providing job-embedded and ongoing professional development for teachers. They will provide support to the principal and leadership team in data analysis and professional development decision-making. They provide professional development and guidance for teachers to improve their content knowledge and instructional strategies. **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is in year one of implementing new K-5 curricular materials. The ideal candidate will have experience and expertise in elementary literacy best practices.
Candidates selected for an interview will be asked to submit two video clips. The first video will show the candidate teaching students with the second video to show the candidate presenting or facilitating adult learning. The adult interaction video could be during a content or grade level team meeting, professional learning community session, or other adult learning experience led by the candidate.
These videos would help leaders capture both instructional strengths with children, which are extremely important in this role, and adult learning strengths, which are also important for effective coaching.
The role of an instructional coach is to help support the learning journey of the teacher, meaning teaching adults, too, not just children. It’s not the same skill set. And we need both sets of skills for strong instructional coaches.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Instructional Coach is critical in improving student achievement. The role of the coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices, Common Core and Data-Driven Instruction. An instructional coach is a learner who models continuous improvement, and lifelong learning and goes above and beyond to ensure student success.
All instructional coaches work collaboratively as a team with members of the Teaching & Learning Team. Instructional coaches will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration, and using data to inform instruction.
They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers. The instructional coach will demonstrate and model a passion for supporting adult learners.
This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include evaluation of colleagues.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLES:
Model lessons in classrooms on a regular, ongoing basis.
Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the CCSS curriculum and varied assessments, and data analysis.
Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with District initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
Provide support to collaborative teams within buildings.
Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc. to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.
Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
Assist teachers with planning pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
Support teachers by helping with the – strategic how of teaching - - share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers during planning times.
Conduct regular, ongoing coaching cycles using the district model.
Co-Plan school based professional learning with the principal and school leadership team.
Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success.
Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
Contribute to the development systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
Attend all district professional learning and trainings as required by the district.
Communicate with principals, teachers, and the Teaching and Learning Office
Serve on hiring committees
Maintain a monthly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
Attend regular team (coach, interventionist, principal) meetings.
Attend monthly district coach meetings
Attend and facilitate (as requested) PLC and Staff meetings
Attend summer training sessions
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold one valid teacher content endorsement at the level of the coaching position (elementary, middle or high school).
Minimum of 5 years experience teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs.
Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.
Demonstrated teacher leadership.
Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise.
Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Models continual improvement, demonstrates lifelong learning and applies new learning to help
all students achieve.
Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities.
