Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLP-A)
to join our team. This is a non-aligned, non-exempt/hourly position that will report to both the Director of Student Support Services and the Building Administrator. The primary responsibilities include assisting Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) with planning and providing speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Additionally, assessing students and providing therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program. Implement speech and language programs or activities as planned and directed by speech-language pathologists. Monitor the use of alternative communication devices and systems. This position will be split between two locations: Integrated Arts Academy and Sustainability Academy.
The Essential Functions of this position include but are not limited to:
Assist speech-language pathologists in the conduct of student screenings or assessments of language, voice, fluency, articulation, or hearing.
Follow and implement treatment plans or protocols as directed by speech-language pathologists.
Document student progress toward meeting established objectives and report the information to the SLP;
Collect, compile and document data on student achievement to assess program quality, prepare reports and/or update IEP logs. Consult with SLP, teachers, etc. for the purpose of providing requested information and developing plans for services;
Prepare therapy material and/or equipment for use in therapy activities; adapt or modify instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities under the direction of the SLP ;
Assist in maintaining student records, tallying data, preparing charts, records, graphs and reports;
Observe and report significant behavioral patterns or other problems to the SLP;
Assist speech-language pathologists in the remediation or development of speech and language skills;
Assist the SLP in conducting in-service training sessions, or family and community education programs;
Maintain and prepare a wide variety of manual and electronic materials (e.g. charts, logs, records and/or reports) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information; and/or complying with mandated requirements;
Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students;
Assist in the development and implementation of individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with Speech/Language impairment and assist with IEPs for students with speech/language as a service on an annual basis or according to requirements;
Comply with all Medicaid requirements for school-based claiming, including obtaining written Medicaid consent from parents of all students served and timely filing of claims that meet Medicaid standards;
Maintain records and information concerning individual students in the prescribed confidential manner and using the records and information only for the purposes for which they are maintained according to FERPA guidelines;
Assist licensed SLP in therapeutic services;
Participate in various meetings for the purpose of addressing student goals and needs, and to meet laws and policies;
Share with other staff members the responsibility for school activities and student supervision.
The required education and experience of this position include:
Education:
Minimum Required: High School diploma plus at least two years of post-secondary education or graduation from a speech-language pathology assistant program.
Preferred: Associate’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related field.
Certification Required:
Experience:
Minimum Required: Two years experience in education or related field.
Preferred:
Training and/or experience with English Language Learners.

Working knowledge
Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.

Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.

Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.

Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses, concepts, or approaches.
