Special Education Long Term Sub Teacher - Moderate or Severe Special Education Certification,
Title of Program: LEAP (Learn, Excel, Accomplish, Prosper)
Location of Program: Curtis Middle School
Target Student Population
The LEAP Program serves students in grades 6, 7 and 8 with a broad spectrum of learning and communication needs who require a higher level of individualization and support. Students in the LEAP Program may have intellectual disabilities, severe communication disabilities, neurological disabilities and or Autism. Students in LEAP require specialized instruction with accommodations and modifications in order to access core academics.
Program Services and Methodologies
LEAP is designed to assist students in developing the following: 1. academic skills commensurate with their cognitive ability, 2. functional language and communication skills including pragmatic language skills, 3. adaptive behavior skills including the development of self-advocacy skills. Students participating in this program have opportunities for the development of functional and adaptive skills, as well as supported, inclusive experiences in the general education setting.
LEAP Courses include English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading, Social Pragmatics, as well as Functional Learning.
The LEAP Program provides an integrated array of services including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social skill instruction and psychological counseling support.
Close communication with parents and/or guardians is maintained to facilitate student progress academically and socially.
Program Setting
Students receive content academic instruction within the LEAP separate small group setting with accommodations and individualized modifications. Through the access and entry points of the frameworks, students will be able to access the Sudbury Standards and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Students take English, Math, Social Studies, Academic Support/Tutorial and Science classes within the program. Unified Arts and World Language are taken in general education classes with paraprofessional support staff members present when necessary.
Students require the assistance of the program teachers to monitor attendance, progress in general education classes and in the Curtis School Community. All students participate as fully as possible in the Curtis School Community including activities and other non-academic social activities. The LEAP Program provides community opportunities and experiences as an integral component. Academic content areas and social communication skills are addressed in the context of these community experiences.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred;
•Must have a Massachusetts license in Moderate or Severe Disabilities 5-9 through the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education;
•Must have demonstrated success with and be knowledgeable about current research-based interventions for children with these disabilities;
•Must possess demonstrated ability to develop positive behavior intervention plans;
•Experience in Wilson/O-G, EmPOWER Writing, executive functioning training a plus;
•Experience with the administration and interpretation of a wide range of formal and informal diagnostic assessment and evaluation tools;
•Excellent writing and communication skills required Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
