Work Schedule
Regular work hours are expected to be Monday to Friday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The expectation is that the employee will work the hours necessary to accomplish their jobs. Ability to work variable nights, weekends and/or holidays, on-campus or off-site, depending upon work conditions and demands.
Anticipated Hiring Range
$6,250.00 to $7,084.00 per month ($75,000.00 to $85,008.00 annually)
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Position Summary
Under the direction of, and working with, the Dean, the Director - Career Services will lead the development and implementation of career services and professional development programming for undergraduate, graduate, alumni business students, and, as needed, lead the gift administration and management centers/programming. The Director will recruit, train, and lead the staff in the Career Services and Professional Development Center, and is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with employers, campus partners, and professional associations. The Director will collect and assess data on these programs and the services administered, and provide external LFCoB gift program updates to the Dean, university administration and external funders.
The Director serves as the primary contact and organizer for new career development programs and initiatives. This will include, but will not be limited to, developing and administering the CREATE Fellows and other corporate Fellows programs, developing and maintaining business partnerships with employers for jobs and internship opportunities for students, education resources for students via workshops, information sessions, etc., and working directly with faculty, deans, directors, staff, students, alumni, external partners, and relevant university offices and departments to create, implement, and promote the College of Business career development strategies. The Director-Career Services will actively contribute to the college's mentoring program, student engagement initiatives, community engagement, and other student outreach and retention events.
Position Information
Leadership and Business Relations
- Develop and maintain relationships with employers, industries, and departments on campus, to meet the career needs of CoB students. Recruit, hire, supervise, and train career counselors, coordinators, interns, and/or student assistants who will help support and deliver the comprehensive services offered by the College of Business Career Services & Professional Development Center. Manage and coordinate office team activities and workload. Oversee industry-specific career programs. This may include, but is not limited to: internships, managing databases, coordinating student resume building and interviews, building and maintaining communications with students and employers, generating surveys, writing reports, sourcing scholarships, updating activity records, etc.
Program Development, Implementation, Administration and Assessment
- Plan and implement career services and events (such as career information sessions, speaker panels, networking events) etc.) in collaboration with staff, faculty, employers, alumni and other departments on campus that promote students' career and professional development. Provide workshops and coaching for students regarding career and professional development. Advise students on a full range of career processes, including individual and group counseling, career planning, setting career goals, researching career information, and developing job and internship search competencies. Identify and promote job and internship opportunities for students. Identify specific needs of students to include resume building, interviewing, networking skills. Create career services materials and marketing content. Develop and maintain a calendar for program creation and implementation.
Global Innovation Project Administration and Management
- Advance the mission of the Lam Family College of Business by supporting initiatives otherwise identified and associated with the Lam-Larsen-Rippleworks Gift initiatives by supporting the Career Services Center's ability to serve students in the following ways:
o Implement Mentorship programs
o Leverage technology and software to support student engagement
o Hire, train, and manage student assistants, ambassadors, and other support staff needed to manage, support, and run the center
o Develop and grow relationships with external constituents, including industry professionals, entrepreneurs, alumni, government officials and future donor prospects to ensure efforts towards supporting the Workforce are maintained
o Work closely with chairs, faculty and other initiative directors who contribute curricular, programs, fellows across all disciplines within the LFCoB
o Build, develop, and maintain partnerships with faculty, staff, and department and centers to create, support and develop events and programming for cross-campus opportunities for students who have an entrepreneurial interest.
o Manage and provide support for existing and new fellows programs
o Develop annual reports on student learning and experience happening within the center as a result of the program and events offered
o Communicate, collaborate, and develop with SF State Director of Development proposals and programing to entice alumni and donner engagement
o Manage and work with the LFCoB Executive Director/Director of Marketing on developing a strategic broad range of communications and marketing materials on all programing, events, and services to increase student awareness and engagement
o Support various faculty and initiatives under the Lam-Larsen-Rippleworks gift by providing project management, website management, and other duties as assigned
o Work closely with the LFCoB Senior Staff, including the dean, associate dean, faculty, and Center and Initiative Directors to gather data for reporting purposes
o Build strong rapport with on- and off-campus partners

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree, preferably in a related field such as Business, Education, Counseling, Student Affairs.
- 7 or more years of work experience in a related field. Familiarity with higher education, student services, and career counseling. Experience should be in a multi-cultural environment with individuals with varying backgrounds, identities, life experiences, personality types, and communication styles.
- Proven career program development, project management, and business development and outreach experience with demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and coordinate projects.
- Solid and committed work ethic; highly reliable.
- Possess highly developed, demonstrated teamwork skills. Ability to build and maintain relationships with students, staff, faculty, alumni, employers, and community partners.
- High attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, and possesses the ability to analyze complex problems and provide effective solutions.
- Excellent written, non-verbal, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong spreadsheet and database proficiency, as well as experience utilizing PowerPoint presentation software. Strong analytical skills; ability to generate, analyze, and synthesize large amounts of data to produce reports utilizing metrics and analytics.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, tolerate ambiguity and change, and use sound judgment in making decisions.
- Quick and willing learner who is patient, upbeat, and creative with an engaging personality.
- Experience handling sensitive information, exercising strong professional judgement, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Experience developing and managing budgets.
- Experience with corporate outreach, marketing, promoting programs and services, and developing professional development, career services, and other industry-engagement programs.
- Ability to thrive in a busy office environment and prioritize work load with frequent interruptions.
Preferred Qualifications
-Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. required.
-Interpersonal and Financial Analytical Skills necessary.
-Knowledge of CSU and University Fiscal Policies and procedures at San Francisco State University.
-Knowledge of CFS, OBIEE, HRMS, LCD, PeopleSoft and other University systems and processes.
