As a part of the New Student and Family Programs team, the Assistant Director of Orientation teams with the Director and campus partners to design and implement effective orientation activities, resources and programs that prepare students to become successful members of the AU Community. As a department in the Office of Campus Life, we work to intentionally guide, challenge and support students as they grow and thrive as members of the AU Community on campus and beyond. Specifically, the Assistant Director is responsible for implementing all orientation programming, including summer, fall, and spring sessions for undergraduate first year and transfer students and their families. The Assistant Director selects, trains, and supervises orientation student staff. The Assistant Director analyzes data from program evaluations and makes recommendations for program improvements. The Assistant Director is an active contributor on the team to support resources and programs across various platforms including but not limited to: conversion and retention efforts, university-wide welcome activities for students, Family Weekend, Commencement and year-round family engagement. The Assistant Director is part of a team of professional and student staff. This position supports more than 2,000 students and 15,000 families each year with an annual budget of more than $500,000. 
Essential Functions
Program Management: 
Design, plan and implement all orientation programming, including summer, fall and spring sessions for first year and transfer students and their families. Collaborate with campus partners to intentionally design content and delivery methods that effectively prepare students to complete required on-boarding tasks, identify campus resources, recognize university values and feel like welcomed new members of the AU Community. Inclusive programming and resource development will utilize various active and passive strategies including digital, print and in-person platforms to support university goals and student outcomes. The Assistant Director is expected to be knowledgeable about trends in student services, orientation, transition and retention strategies. Serve on various event and program planning committees (eg, Transfer Task Force, Welcome Week/Move-In, Family Weekend) in order to inform and support team efforts.
Student Staff Recruitment, Training and Supervision: 
Leads the team in the recruitment and selection of a dynamic student staff with the skills and experiences needed to execute orientation programming. With the Operations Coordinator, execute hiring, payroll and account access for orientation student staff. Assumes primary responsibility to design and implement pre- and in-service training programs for all orientation student staff, with the support and participation of the New Student and Family Program team. Evaluates training components in a spirit of continuous improvement. Provide direct supervision and day-to-day practical training and coaching for student orientation staff. Participate in weekly staff meetings with student staff, other administrative units, and various committees in order to support this function.
Program Evaluation:
 Gather feedback from campus partners, students and families to improve the programmatic experience. Utilize formal and informal methods to collect and interpret data. Share timely reports on trends and findings with the New Student and Family Programs team, campus partners, and stakeholders as appropriate. Provide regular reports to the Director make recommendations in the spirit of continues program improvement.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Experience working with college students and a demonstrated ability to relate to students, families, and campus partners.
Knowledge of college student development theory and student transition issues and demonstrated ability to use this knowledge.
Demonstrated event planning skills with attention to detail; strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
Well-developed written, speaking, organizational, time management, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability and willingness to master new technology platforms, working familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
