RVCC is seeking a part-time Federal Work-Study students for office support to the Planetarium.
This work-study position is available for Academic Year 2022-2023.
This is a multi-tasked position, working as a team member of the administrative and support staff, providing support for the Planetarium and the Observatory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Answer phones, check messages, and return phone calls.
Take public show reservations.
Present a 10-20 minute star ID program for every season.
Welcome school groups and take admission fees.
Make photocopies of show tickets.
Make photocopies of scavenger hunts.
Sell tickets to public shows.
Sell gift shop items. Replenish gift shop stock from back room.
Interact with school groups and public visitors in the exhibit hall. Be able to explain primary exhibits - ones used in the scavenger hunt.
Be comfortable doing several hands-on activities to use with the public on Astronomy Day, Girl Scout programs, and for other special events.
Seat school groups quickly and safely into the theater.
Take tickets for public shows.
Introduce / Welcome visitors to the theater.
Introduce and run recorded shows and laser shows.
Start up and shut down theater.
Make simple programming buttons to run live shows.
Create monthly newsletter and distribute via Constant Contact.
Decorate halls for holidays.
Advanced: Make complex buttons for shows, including programming new shows.
Advanced: Create laser song modules using Pangolin software.
Advanced: Operate the 3M Observatory's telescope, interact with visitors.
Advanced: Use 8 Dobsonian telescopes with public visitors.
Other duties as needed.
Requirements:
General knowledge of astronomy.
Comfortable with public speaking.
Interest in working with children.
Technical experience a plus
Flexible schedule: weekday and weekend work.
Microsoft Office Suite including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.
Excellent customer service skills & strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
Banner / Argos.
Data Entry.
Operation of multi-line phone system.
Internet proficient.
