The
Wheeler Lab
at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., Missoula invites applications for a
Software Scientist.
The position is supported by both NIH and DOE federal grants to develop Machine Learning approaches in support of genome annotation. The successful applicant will join a research group that includes 7 graduate researchers, three staff software engineers, and a staff bioinformatician. The role of this position is primarily focused on the development of software that drives and translates lab research successes into enterprise-grade software, with an emphasis on Machine Learning and Data Visualization. The selected candidate will engage in complex software development tasks at an expert level – their efforts will be mixed between (i) leading development of novel Deep Learning strategies for biological sequence annotation and functional prediction, (ii) translating software developed by graduate students into enterprise grade software for widespread public release, and (iii) mentoring and development of junior researchers in the Wheeler lab.
Projects in the Wheeler lab are broad, ranging from statistical modeling of biological sequence families, algorithm design, to low-level software optimization, to FPGAs, to Deep Neural Networks, to Natural Language Processing, to web services; from genomes, to proteins, to infectious disease, to drug discovery, to animal behavior in videos. Experience with genomics data analysis is not required, but are a plus. As the developer gains experience in the research domain, there will be opportunity to influence project directions, and optionally to aid in development of future grant applications.
The Wheeler lab is home to a diverse and highly interactive group of researchers. It sits in the Department of Computer Science at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. ( cs.umt.edu
