Essential Job Duties:
NC State Extension transforms science into everyday solutions for North Carolinian's through programs and partnerships focused on agriculture and food, health and nutrition, and 4-H youth development. The NC State Extension Content Database (content.ces.ncsu.edu) houses peer reviewed publications and factsheets written by extension faculty. The database was accessed by 2.7M people with 4.1M page views in 2021.
The incumbent in this position will be the primary manager of the NC State Extension Content Database. This position will work closely with extension faculty and staff to import and edit resources stored in the database. They will define metadata to describe each resource and integrate it with extension websites and applications.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Accurately transfer content (written text, tables and images) provided by faculty in a variety of formats into the database.
Edit and publish content submitted directly into the database by extension faculty after reviewing Quality Assurance elements to ensure ADA and copyright compliance and enhance search engine optimization
Review and/or define metadata (tags and additional information) to describe content accurately. Compose abstracts.
Train extension faculty to use the Content Database and understand potential integrations with the extension web system. Advise faculty on processes related to developing factsheets or peer reviewed publications. Encourage faculty and support their efforts to update outdated content. Retire outdated content.
Work with CALS Communication editors on details related to publishing peer reviewed content in the database
Work with Extension Information Technology peers to effectively organize database content delivery within public Extension websites to enhance discoverability and more effectively bring content to the attention of stakeholders.
Provide feedback on the functionality of the content database and work with Extension Information Technology development team to implement improvements.

Minimum Experience/Education:
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in a library or in archives or records management; or High School diploma or equivalency and five years of experience in a library or in archives or records management; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively both as a team member and independently.
Ability to interpret and apply complex rules for description and access.
Ability to interpret and explain a wide variety of policies and procedures, varying from basic to complex, to internal customers, and to exercise independent judgment.
Ability to work with multiple, complex applications.
Understanding of the current information resource needs of clients in a college/university setting.
Demonstrated interest in and understanding of the organization of information.
Attention to detail, ability to work independently, time-management and organizational skills.
Computer skills including working knowledge of HTML and Wordpress, proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, email and Web browsers (or similar software).
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including editing skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Understanding of accessibility best practices under Department Required Skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
2 to 3 years experience with library cataloging and data management.
Knowledge of technologies affecting resource discovery on websites and via search.
Experience with library authority control.
Knowledge of agriculture.
Spanish language proficiency.
