Cal Poly Counseling Services is searching for two Academic Year (i.e., September through June) Clinical Counselors with a BIPOC focus to provide individual, couples, and group counseling. Anticipated start date is Fall 2022.
Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to meet this mission through the provision of individual, couples, and group counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, and prevention education as a member of the Counseling Services team within Campus Health & Wellbeing with a particular focus on addressing the mental health needs of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) students. The position requires training and experience in therapeutic support of students or clients of color, knowledge of historic and current issues facing BIPOC students, and expertise in outreach and engagement with historically marginalized groups.
Clinical counselors are expected to provide 65% (i.e., 26 hours per week average) direct service (individual, couples, group therapy, outreach presentations) to registered Cal Poly students. Adjustments to this ratio of service delivery will be applied as other duties are assigned. This also includes crisis intervention, provision of psychoeducational workshops, and clinical support for other departments within Campus Health and Wellbeing. The position requires crisis intervention and work with serious presenting concerns as well as the ability to conceptualize cases and provide diagnoses within sociocultural context.
Participation on campus or departmental committees may be expected.

Department Summary
Campus Health & Wellbeing helps students achieve and maintain academic success and lifelong health and wellbeing by providing timely and appropriate primary and acute health care, disease and injury prevention education, professional mental health care, outreach, educational services and campus consultations.
Counseling Services promotes the development of holistic student emotional health and serves the campus through advocacy and the provision of confidential, accessible services. We invest in creating a supportive and inclusive space so students across identities can feel they belong and have access to culturally responsive services. We seek to build bridges to care for students who have been historically marginalized and leverage our system to be more equitable and responsive to the unique needs of students.
Key Qualifications
Demonstrated experience providing crisis intervention and brief individual and group psychotherapy, including DSM diagnoses, to late adolescent and young adult populations.
Demonstrated competence with diversity and intersectionality and experience in addressing the mental health needs of BIPOC students and other historically marginalized groups.
Ability to collaborate and work as member of a team, including ability to respond to unexpected campus emergencies or crises.
Ability to speak publicly and represent Counseling Services (as part of Campus Health & Wellbeing, Student Affairs) to the campus community.
Ability to independently organize, manage and prioritize tasks, including clinical caseload.
Ability to provide consultation regarding mental health to faculty, staff, parents, partners and friends of students
Education and Experience
Possession of a Master's degree in appropriate field and current licensure or eligible for licensure to practice in the State of California as LPCC, LCSW or LMFT with minimum of 2 years of clinical experience post degree (in any state or province).
OR
Possession of doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology and current licensure or eligible for licensure (i.e., successfully completed all supervised professional experience) as a psychologist in the State of California.
Special Conditions
Must be able to respond to campus situations calling for Counseling Services presence (i.e. campus crises, student death, etc.) after normal business hours, or on weekends. Occasional holiday work and adjustment to normal working hours to meet special jobs may be required.
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Must successfully pass pre-employment background check.
This position classification has been defined as Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Salary:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,800 - $6,763/month
Note: The hiring level will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate. This is an Academic Year appointment and the salary is paid monthly over a 12-month period.
CSU Classification Range: $5,046 - $9,403
